The fabric of reality has begun to fray.

I wanted to keep the vibe of Hemet, CA from my last layout with this scene. No trespassing sign, phone pole, lumber yard, palm, and crossbucks.

Updating of the layout, realigning Lincoln Yard and adding Windsor St Yard, which is what Lincoln Yard use to be  :? :scared:

The first loads are being pulled from the new wood chip loader.  New, but, WTF?  Look at all of the spilled wood chips!  This is just the base coat of ground cover, since the loader needs to be removable until I weather it.

I have been to this train station. I thought it looked familiar.

Thought I would be done with the NH County baggage-Lounge cars tonight, but the floor/underframe needs some minor milling with the Dremel to clear the windows, window shades and handrails. Fortunately I can mill slightly and won’t have to redo the parts. Frustrating though since everything was test-fit after printing months ago.

Finally after months of CAD, 3D printing and Electronics projects I’m back actually doing something constructive on the layout. Before laying more track I want to finish (mostly) scenery in harder to reach places so that I’m not doing the work over track that has been laid. Would really like to get that done on the south side of the layout where there will be the edge of a small town and my coal mine complex. Other than that it will be mostly scenery on the upper and lower levels of the layout.

Here are a few images of a couple partial days of work this week as I'm still finishing up a new command station for the layout.

A few more of the work on Raiwire ( HERE ).

A link to this whole build ( HERE ) .

I'm replacing the passenger cars on my 1947 Ringling train with newer models that have more details.

The original cars I used for the train (examples are cars # 200 and 204) are very old Lima cars without much detail.

The new cars are manufactured by Micro Trains and have much more detail (vestibule steps, body mounted couplers, better mold detail, etc...).

Cars # 207 and 225 are finished.  5 more to go.

70 Years of modeling.

A hobby friend is approaching his 100th on-line episode and wants to highlight some off of his subscriber’s layouts, so I put together a 2-minute mp4 of all the layouts I’ve done leading up to my current layout for him. It suddenly stuck me that that encompasses over 70 years of modeling (includes a 25-year gap of college, marriage, 4 kids, etc.). I’ve enclosed a more leisurely (3 minutes 51 second) version that some of you may find interesting.

Now pushing 80, where do I go from here? My 70 turnout Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore layout is becoming a bit of a hassle to maintain. It is a shame you can’t sell a layout easily or I would just take the money and start a smaller (i.e., less to maintain) layout. I actually miss the original 4’x8’ (currently residing somewhere in Alabama).

The transition to DCC has been stressful. I am kept above water by some very helpful New Jersey Southern club members (and occasionally @peteski).

I will continue to sell off a good portion of my collections. My “Cleaning Out the Attic” posts have gotten me from 900 N scale freight cars to 450 (another 200 to go). I still have (4) HO BLI display cabinet steamers that I am having difficulty finding good homes for.

It has been a good run! I still have a few years of modeling left (just no more painting!).

Keep ‘em rollin’

Rick

I finally got a little work done this week on the East Norwood layout.. cork is down for the B&O Midland sub.  And one of the end pieces not pictured was painted.  I had been waiting on some electrical components (wire/feeders/terminal blocks/PC board ties) since the next step will be putting down track and it'll need to be wired for power.

I spent quite a bit of time reworking the Conrail N-20 (International Car Co extended vision caboose) so it had minimal layering and the end railings and the fit of the parts was better. As you can see I also tested some paint recently.  I'm rapidly accumulating test models but that's par for the course.

Haven't posted much over the last few months as I have been helping my friend Justin with his layout and helping other members of our group with DCC engine issues.  Justin recently asked if I would speed match some of his locomotives and it gave me an opportunity to move the date of the Grand Trunk Southern forward from the 1970 into the 2010's.  It is September, 2014 and an ASTX grain train with run through power from the Virginian & Ohio and the Allegheny Midland is exercising trackage rights over the Grand Trunk Southern.

Sometimes I fantasize about doing the San Juan Central, but as a more plausible railroad following D&RGW practice and with a more workable track plan...
