Maybe he'll buy Gold Medal's production before he retires!

I was a bit worried about the part where he is 71  :scared:

Really that looks like way to much to make some windows. Like he just has money to play with.

I love Tichy detail parts - bolt castings, windows, doors, all great for our hobby!

Interesting business and history.  I have an elevated appreciation for the many little detail parts that reside within those Tichy Train Group packages!

Thanks for posting the video.

Definitely direct ordering from now on- I've heard his Walthers story from other manufacturers in the past.

I like their products. As I said recently on another thread, I've built a number of their gondola and MOW kits, and I think in addition to being fine models in their own right, they have a lot of potential for kitbashing.  I just wish they made more N scale products. And I have several sets of decals that I've never found the 'round tuit' for, but...one of these days...

I usually hit his booth at Timonium and load up there.  The $10 admission (in lieu of shipping charges) gets amortized over a bunch of other stuff, and I like to see what I'm buying.

I have always ordered direct and shipping is pretty fast with them.

I have also ordered direct- and orders went through easily and quickly. But in the days when online stores stocked their products, I also bought a lot from MBK, etc, because I could always add a few packs of windows, or some decals, to fill out an order.

I thought the inventory shown in the video was pretty impressive- Tichy is obviously committed to having their product available- no waiting for a production run 2 years from now.  And I saw enough stock in the video that I won't accept the "they haven't run those for years" excuse from retailers.

One other thing to note- I'm surprised by the prices some people want on eBay for products that Tichy still produces, at much lower prices.

He also usually participates in the Springfield (Amherst) show. He has several tables full of his products.  Nice guy to chat with.

Thoroughly enjoyed building his MOW Crane and boom car in HO.  Great looking kits in both scales when completed.

I've always been impressed by Tichy's quality, consistency, and availability, but occurred to me that they were running a real-life Aperture Science Lab to make that happen. It makes sense in hindsight!
