I purchased an extra abba ER set with the thought of bashing them. but in closer looking it seems to be a difficult decision as where to cut off from a donor for the extra length.

looking forward to your response. thanks!

Gary

Hi Gary,

We were discussing Baldwin Passenger Sharks in N scale, back in recent Jan 5, 2025 "Weekly Update".

Go here and see the discussion :)  https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=59024.msg813121#msg813121

Bottom lines were:

* We discussed old Baldwin Passenger Shark resin shells by "Father Nature" - a small vendor that is long out of business

* Those shells were basically somewhat rough and approximations, a bit shorter by 6 scale feet than prototype, and used the freight Shark nose - the passenger Shark noses were longer.  The old Father Nature shells were not high fidelity prototype accuracy, but they were somewhat reasonable 'approximations'.  By looking closely at the shells and photos in that thread, you can see where the 'blend of the freight Shark components, into a foobie passenger Shark shell' was made.

* I bought those models shown in in that Jan 5, 2025 Weekly Update, from eBay, and shared photos.  Someone took the time to do a good job on working with those shells and painted them up as well as could be done.   They're on unaltered N scale Con-Cor DL-109 mechanisms - the DL-109 wheelbase is approx 43 feet, which is approx 3 feet shorter than the prototype Passenger Shark (at approx 46 feet).  Thus  these Father Nature shells are 'compressed', i.e. the Father Nature A unit scales out to 74 scale feet long instead of prototype 80 scale feet long.

* Most importantly, others chimed in with their interest, and as said above, references were made to possible future 3D printed, more accurate shells for Pennsy Baldwin Passenger Sharks!   We're looking forward to hearing more about them .... including, "what mechanism will they be based upon"?

* Because, as noted in the discussion, to get the right wheelbase and prototype length in N scale, the mechanism would need to either be a stretch of an existing N scale mechanism, or the chassis itself would need to be 3D printed.   (There's some photos of accurate HO models in the Jan 5th 2025 thread, showing the comparison).

You can see more about these older Father Nature shells in N scale, a look under the shell of these models, and a further discussion about prototype accuracy and comparisons, here at my photo album:  https://pbase.com/atsf_arizona/baldwin_passenger_shark_foobie_in_n_scale

Thx for asking!

I think the easiest method but I’m armchair quarterback on this one - is to go the route like always solutions did for the little Joe. Use parts from existing mechanisms to make it. Luckily the trucks are the same as an Alco PA, so in theory you could use the life like plastic framed PA and make a new long frame and some longer drive shafts and re use the lead weights for traction.

Obviously this solution is vastly over simplified, but not out of the realm of of possibilities

Had a good time today running around on the Free-moN set up at the Great Train Show in Columbus. I brought down my Lake Shore Central and Toledo Division loop and both did well. I did put some temporary buildings in place on the LSC from other layouts I have, but I’m looking forward to more free time this winter and spring to complete the structures that will fill those spaces.
Where'd you get the neat 7-up Groceries sign?

That looks like a Blair Line sign. Available here in the "Main St. Storefront Signs III" package:

DirtyD79:  Keeping everything is especially important in N scale, where today's "see it everywhere" model may be gone tomorrow.  I'm still using 40 to 50 year old Walthers decals occasionally.
