What are FASTEST N scale mechanisms out there..

Just locomotives - no Bullet Trains... and nothing fancy

I'm working on a small multipurpose layout, and I need to hunt down some FAST locomotives.

I had a Concor/Rivarossi SW Hip Roof switcher than ran like 900 scale MPH, easily won a round robin drag race we staged at an N Scale Convention years ago, probably the older the design the faster the top speed



Not my Loco, this is someone else's Top Fuel Funny Car...

Any Kato diesel locomotive.  :)
Also, as NorthWestGN mentioned, any of the older N scale locos (like from the '70s) will have fast gearing.  Bachmann, etc.

The KATO center cab from years ago was an extraordinarily smooth runner, but man it could really move quickly.

If it's still not fast enough, play Springsteen's "Born to Run" (original version) at 90+ decibels.  My car would go at least 20 mph faster, anytime it played on the radio.  (I left the CD- and before that, the cassette, at home- couldn't afford the speeding tickets)

Just crank the power up past 12 volts, turn any loco into your fastest  :lol:

The top speed of most of the older Fleischmann (German) models seemed not scaled down but 1:1 prototypical.  :trollface: They literally flew off the track, not even pizza-cutter flanges would keep them in the curves.
New models have improved though, just added a class 01 steamer to my collection, and it barely reaches its top (scale) speed. Extremely quiet and smooth running, leaving me quite impressed.
