Is anyone familiar with the now out-of-production Nigel Lawton 009 Bachmann Re-Motoring Kit and the Nigel Lawton 009 12 Volt 10mm x 12mm Coreless Mini Motors that continue to be sold online?

I used one of those motors in a 2mm finescale conversion, it runs well. I have no experience with the conversion kit, but I would expect it to be good. His kits were generally well regarded.

Good to hear as it has become relatively pricey and difficult to acquire the small and now out-of-production Mashima and Sagami can motors.

If obtaining a small (coreless) motor is the goal here, there are multiple sources of those.
I've been using https://micromotor.eu/Motors/ distributed through https://www.dm-toys.de/en/list/manufacturer/MicromotorEU.html
There are also others out there.

Wow, DMToys has a huge selection of of Micromotor.EU can motors in stock.

Thanks for sharing.

Recently came across a bunch of N Scale of Nevada and NHD chassis conversion/upgrade kits for various Rivarossi steam locomotives that have (unbeknownst to me) been in my collection for quite some time.

While some of the kits were factory shipped with Sagami can motors, the bulk of them are comprised of a replacement chassis and the drive coupling components for an end-user supplied replacement can motor.

You're welcome  Neville.
The other seller of coreless motors I have seen mentioned here is http://tramfabriek.co.uk/motors.html#motors

Also, some time ago Max Magliaro had a custom Neodymium magnets made to replace the weak rubbery magnets in the Rivarossi "can" motors used in N scale steam locos. He also recommended a better armature to use to replace the original Rivarossi armature.  He also offered to upgrade the motors for modelers. He is currently out of the magnets, but there are several happy modelers out there with what looks like original Rivarossi model but is supercharged.

Pete,

You have supplied me with another splendid resource.

Thanks again for sharing this useful information.

Aside from their motors, Tramfabriek also appears to offer and extensive line of drive components such as adapters, gears, and flywheels, which would be useful for some of my HO-Scale drive conversions and upgrades.

Wonder why the bulk of the component suppliers are European (particularly German and UK) based?

Given that the majority of domestic model railroaders lean towards RTR offerings, is there no such interest in these types of modeling products in the US?

While I had looked into Max Magliaro's motor rebuilding service when it was first offered, aside from my preference toward (i.e., a vestige of my previous HO-Scale brass locomotive collecting days) Mashima and Sagami products, many of the chassis conversions that I have on hand were specifically designed for Sagami can motor upgrades.

That is my take on this situation too.  Judging by the latest super-detailed locomotives from multiple manufactures, and wide range of roadnames and road numbers begin offered by manufacturers, along with already assembled and decorated structures,  it seems that the U.S. based modelers are getting more and more into RTR type of modeling.

The craftsman-type of modeling seem to be in the decline here.  There are some domestically-based vendors of mechanical components, especially for N scale narrow gauge modeling, but there aren't many.

Let's also not forget Japan. They do offer a range of power chassis available.

Given the extensive range of craftsman-type etched brass N-Scale locomotive, rolling-stock, and layout detail kits that have been produced and sold to Japanese modelers over the years, I guess it should come as no surprise that there is also a demand for a wide range of power chassis.

While Japan does have an RTR consumer base for products manufactured by firms like Kato and Tomix, the country also appears to have far more craftsman-type modelers than the US does.
