I don't know what's going on with the bright trim rings around the marker lights on the ST model. Are the markers illuminated?

The class lights do have light pipes in them or at least my SD40-2's do. I can only assume ST was planning on making them light up but for some reason didn't.

Are the decoder sockets on the TM motherboards really E24 like STC says on their website? Their SD40-2's were Next18.

Tunnel motors are definitely E24 - I just did two last week.

But... but... but... the ST SD40-2s I have are E24, as well. I found this out the hard way, ordering Next18 LokPilots in advance of receiving four 40-2s, and... oops.

Now FWIW, Atlas SD45s are Next18.

I'm wanting to purchase a pair of SP and a pair of DRGW for reasons I cannot explain. No need for them, dare say they never ventured to Ontario in those schemes in my era. Thus far I've resisted...

They do look nice though.

Well, three SP in the Roman lettering TM's arrived today. I missed out on getting a Kodachrome unit (kicking myself), and I have no actual need for these, but they are gorgeous models. I feel SP and DRGW modelers are a pretty happy group right now, having these stunning models rtr. Scale Trains is doing to N scale locomotives what the Dreadnought did to pre-Dreadnought battleship fleets.

While I've only purchased one so far, this SP modeler is indeed happy! I feel like this is the very first N scale SP-specific model that is on par with, say, an Athearn Genesis model in HO (and now ST as well). I have an SP snoot in roman lettering and it is absolutely stunning in every way (save for lights that are a bit too dim for my liking, but I like 'em very bright). I've never seen relief detail to this level on an N scale shell before! I want to get at least one more but the funds are a bit tight after springing for an Atas SD45 and a Surfliner set. Might have to wait for the next run.

The first run of the SD40T-2 in 1975 came with 116" length nose.  Followed by three orders for the 123" nose and three orders for the 88" nose.

Missed by that much, I did... I think the reason they didn't spring to mind was I was after the 90's version with light packages removed and speed lettering. Doubtless the next run.

It's one of the two reasons I kept one of my Intermountain SD40-2s for myself: so I can MU it with other stuff without everything looking so bad in comparison!

Though lacking in details, Kato still makes the finest 6-axle mechanism in n scale.
