Finally got my MTL 60' flat

Wow these are just gorgeous. The deck is especially well done. It's painted (not wood), but so well simulated that I don't think I could improve on it in any way.

The car sits low. It rolls well and the painting is great. Some end parts are add-on, but that does not bother me. The 70t ASF roller bearing trucks are new. They are offset like traditional MTL trucks but not under-slung like BLMA parts. The weels are new. They may be 28" but I have to look closer. They have a good profile but are not quite as delicate looking as FVM or BLMA fine scale wheels.

Really nice MTL!

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

I just got mine this weekend too! Super nice cars.

Like all of the MTL direct printed stuff it looks outstanding, but they really benefit from a coat of mat varnish to kill the shine. It makes all of the difference.

Got some couplers installed; MTL stuff is top quality so everything is a perfect fit and heights are spot on.

Because he manufactures the best couplers ever made in N scale.

The 70ton asf truck has been around for a little while. I think it was first introduced on the Great Northern PS-2 release.

I received mine last week too.  MTL did a superb jobs with them!!  Between these and the NSC TBOX's, they have my full attention again. (It feels like the 1970s again, when Kadee introduced their first N scale box car).

Not sure how much longer I can stand to see Andrew taunt us with his coupler photos though... ;)

Can't wait for them to do Trailer Train.   I'm sure we'll get a Christmas version next, then they'll sit on the tooling for 18 months.      (Just a joke, sort of...)   ;)

Doh!   Well, guess I deserve that.   And a downvote too...    :P  :D

Edit:  I do actually want the yellow Trailer Train version, that part wasn't a joke.

Anything that won't fit in a boxcar or gondola.

Or nothing at all: I fully intend to assign them as idler flats.

Today, most OTTX/HTTX/TPAX 60' flats are in large machinery service, idler service, and military service on occasion. The parallel tie down rails along the deck make these perfect for loads like that.

Locomotive trucks for export.

Tractor tires for export (mixed into a large cut of tractor loads).

JD Tractors

Idler for a Steel I-Beam Load

TPAX remarked cars in Military service.

My understanding from the TTX History books was the reporting marks (HTTX, OTTX) were indicators of the size chains and tiedowns carried on the cars, with TPAX becoming a more "universal size".

I recently photographed a TPAX (ex HTTX) in fresh TTX paint.

My own photo of OTTX 97366 in idler service on the CN Halton Sub Oct 9, 2021. Perfect match for the MTL car, almost to the number.
