If you listen to Lowell Smith, the special runs are secondary to normal production. And given the staffing issues they have out in Talent, post-forest fires, some special runs have been announced years ago and still "in production" for him. So they might do them, but the lead times appear long.
Yes, they are secondary to normal production and the NSE runs. He's in a unique situation though, in that he's supplying his own plastic. The lead time hasn't been excessive for me, even after the fire. The Xmas cars that they 4C-printed for me was on my plastic and pre-painted in China, and they did the finishing in a reasonable timeframe. I've also had some other jobs quoted that I didn't go though with on their plastic, and the timeframes were within reason.
He does those too, but the majority of the cars folks are waiting for are MTL heavyweights painted to match his passenger car series. It's always possible there's more in the background and the forest fires are a convenient out for both sides?
I did get a good reply from MTL and it would sound like the car I'm proposing has already been considered as a production run, including the rights to the graphics. But the communication does work, they do it, but right now they are booked. Which is OK, because I'm in no rush, I'm looking at least a year out.But thanks, I got what I needed here and the idea 'ain't dead yet' to quote Monty Python.
???????
Hi Joe, we're referencing comments from Lowell's email news and his updates via Facebook live: (Attachment Link) It's been several years on some of these heavyweights.
