It's summer time, so lots of distractions, like golf, so work on the Grand Trunk Southern has slowed down.  With the success of the grout for roadways however, I decided to address an area that I wasn't happy with.  It was just open hillside.  As you can see I carved out the existing scenery, installed a roadbed on which a roadway will be laid and have reached the stage of putting the hardshell back in.  Plan is to get the hillsides done before installing the grout roadway to avoid glue overspray etc.  Have a golf game today but will be posting more on the Grand Trunk Southern thread tonight or tomorrow.



I just realized after I posted this photo that the tree at the start of the bridge is from the hillside I took out and it is just resting there for lack of a better place to put it.  I actually like it.  Looks like I need to plant it there, straightened up of course.

I have roads in my future and am planning to use grout. I’m exited to see how this turns out. Do you have a resource that you’re following?

Finally made some terrain progress on the layout. Now I need to source some trees. I have a handful of Super Trees left over from years ago, but I'm struggling to find more and it's driving me nuts.


Also got my Passaic River & Western run down headquarters almost done. Still need to finish the roof and platform. Played with boarding up some windows but I'm not overly happy with how thick the "wood" came out now that I see it on my screen. Might have to accept the 3-foot rule for now...

Instead of embedding that video in the post, just post the link as a simple URL link.  That way it will show up, and interested members can click on it to get directly to the YouTube video.

EDIT: never mind - John seem to have found a way to embed the video.

@Cory Rothlisberger I ended up going direct to Scenic Express and ordering.  It's an extra shipping charge due to size so I ordered 2 boxes and a jug of ballast to make it better deal.

We have a hard time keeping them in stock at the shop since they moved out to Colorado.

Peteski, I did post the URL and the video appeared, but when I clicked on it, the message, "Playback on other websites disabled by owner" showed up.  I just clicked on it again in the post by John and the same message appears.  I appreciate John's efforts but they appear to have been for naught.

I stand corrected, at least partially.  LOL.  If you ignore the message, and click on the underlined Play on YouTube, you get the video.  I should have left well enough alone when I posted it the first time.

It probably has something to do with clicks/likes/comments/monetization on YouTube.  If it plays on the embedded site, doesn't count on YT

Progress continues to be made on the new yard. 


The turnouts are all wired up and working, and the switcher can move freely from one end of the yard to the other.

Next I have to isolate the three run around tracks to allow an outbound train to be parked while the inbound train arrives.



I'll also need to work on some improved lettering for the control box...

Cory:  For your boarded-up windows, heavy paper or cardstock might be a better choice.  If you can find some printed board siding, it would be ideal.  The thickness would be close to scale.

In fact, I think I've seen some papers at Michaels that might be perfect. Look in the scrap booking area.
