I’m excited to see the flatcar decks are back. I missed these when they were last run. Hogtrainz link below.

What happened to their website?

It has been gone for at least a week.

Not even the pdf file for June 2024 with the announcements can be downloaded.

I am definitely in for the UP/CTRN hoppers with the sugar beet loads.  I took a photo of one of the open hoppers (CNW 135161) before it got its conspicuity stripes.

And here is a Google street view of a sugar beet train being loaded. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1657554,-112.558069,3a,75y,298.38h,88.77t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1skIBiAwjQvw7gOk0E0mGoUQ!2e0!5s20121001T000000!7i13312!8i6656?coh=205409&entry=ttu

However, the artwork for the sugar beet load shows two distinct humps, which would not be prototypical since the beets are loaded with a wheel loader.   :?

Back in the 1960s/70s there was a beet loader at Glade, WA, just north of Pasco, which used a fixed conveyor.  It made multi-heaped loads.

Amalgamated Sugar in southern Idaho also had conveyor loaders in the 1960s; at least for some of their beet dumps.  I am not sure when the conveyors were replaced with wheel loaders, but I know it was sometime before the 1980s.

The screen grab of the last seven cars of the train being loaded with wheel loaders at Pingree is shown below.

The beets in the photo of CNW 135161 probably looked a lot like the "freshly" loaded cars at the beet dump before they "settled" while rolling from southeastern Idaho to southwestern Idaho.  :)
