Chitubox supports

Has anyone figured out a way to take the supports from one model and add them to another model. Like if I support a model and then make a few small changes to it. The old supports will still work, but how can I save just the supports and add to the newer model?

I use the Anycubic slicer which I think is still a fork from the Chitubox slicer - what I've done previously is save the supported model in the slicer as an stl, import that back into my 3D software, remove the model portion and leave the supports.  Then I just include the supports with the model as I export the updated version to bring into the slicer.  Except this time you don't need to add supports as they're already there.

Did that a couple times before deciding to just build my own supports while drafting the model which ensures I get everything exactly where I want it.   And if I need to make changes I can move around my own supports, add to them, reduce, try different support methods, etc.

Cheers -Mike

I found out that Chitubox Pro does it... for the low low price of $170 per year (reoccurring).

But the free 7 day trial works. I saved a supported file and opened it with Pro. Then you right click on the model and select "update model" to select the new file. And boom it changes to the new model.

If Pro had a ton of other stuff I would buy it, but not for just this one thing. Oh well. Hopefully I can keep downloading free trials whenever I need to do this.

What you said about moving supports. You can do that with regular Chitubox Free. Open up the supported model and edit the supports.

I have both Chitubox Basic and Pro. I find it easier to work in Basic. I only use Pro these days to replace a model on an existing support structure when the support structure is complex and I’ve modified it, and when the model hadn’t been altered to the point where the original support structure is no longer practical. Most of the time, I just re-generate the support structure in Basic even if it needs modifications after generation.

Lychee Slicer allows you to swap the .STL file out and leave the supports. very useful if you are iterating on the base model. The downside is the amount if fine tuning available in the free verison of lychee for the support parameters is miles behind what chitubox will let you do.

It is however, very nice when you are iterating model changes and dont want to go through the bit by bit re-drawing of supports every time you update one thing on a model
