ESM — New product line: Trailers By Rail Series

The first release is ready for our new Trailers By Rail Series of N scale kits.  The easy to assemble resin and plastic kits will build models of distinct mid-20th century trailer prototypes that were transported primarily by rail.  The first offering will be the Strick 35' Drop Frame decorated for Stone's Express.  The kits include decals, and assembly directions will be online and accessible via the website product pages or the QR code on the package.  As with our Made In America series, the Trailers By Rail Series will be available online only at www.esmc.com!  The Stone's Express kit will be released at the end of this week, and will be available at the Springfield show later this month!  We hope to have two more kits released by the end of February! 🚂

@bbussey I note that you have mentioned (elsewhere) doing NH 35' Fruehauff ribbed trailers in the future.  If you do - please consider offering them without letter boards so they can be customized for other roadnames (like NKP).

Meanwhile, I'll get some of these!

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

The 35’ Fruehauf ribbed will be the third bodystyle and the 4th and 5th releases. The pilot body prints look super. It’s easier (and less costly) to render bodies with different placard variations than have placards etched. NH and B&M are first up, but we can add NKP to the list. Would need lettering specs for the decals. Yale probably will be next on the Strick drop frame, but that will follow the first Fruehauf releases. The only body variation from Stones is a placard on the front, but artwork remains to be drawn.

Artwork renderings for the second bodystyle, the Strick 32’ aluminum outside post, are posted on the website.

I would be interested in the NKP version if you decide to make them. The look very nice and are a unique model.

Are there going to be any with the pre-McGinnis logo?

There were no New Haven decorated trailers prior to New Image. The trailers were rostered under New England Transportation Co.

There also is a banner on the front page above the pic of the day photo that is a hot link.

We get a lot of online sales for wheels, especially the bulk packs, from consumers unable to get them from their local sources.

Can the NH 40' TOFC flats be made in 3D printing? Not completely, but the deck, side sills, ends, stanchions for the guard rails, the uprights that held the ramps up. Made to fit on some mfgrs' 40' flatcar by removing the flatcar's deck and replace with the printed part. The modeler then attaches thin brass rods to the side stanchions, and fabricates and glues on the end plate from etched diamond tread brass sheet, both of which are available commercially. The nitpickers can fab something to look like the springs that counterweight the end plates.
If there are striations, have them align across the deck, so looks like timber planking. The only fragile parts would be the stanchions, but attaching the brass rod would help to strengthen them.

We won't be doing that.  The trailer kits and the Made-In-America kits are product lines to help us bridge the gaps between injection-molded releases.  What you described easily can be kitbashed by the modeler from commercially-available parts and materials.

p.s. I'm sure the NKPHTS Company Store will want some inventory as well.  Also..  John has a list of NKP N Scale modelers we can push it to.
