CN buying IANR

I suspect that either the IANR between Waterloo and Cedar Rapids or the CN (IC) between Manchester and Cedar Rapids will become a bike trail.

That's too bad. The IANR is/was a nice looking outfit.

Perhaps CN does not want a CP inspired scheme so close to them.   :)

IANR handles CP traffic into the industrial powerhouse that is Cedar Rapids (there's a lot of food processing here), grain and corn blocks into Quaker Oats and ADM, so it's possible that may see about that. IANR also has a petty eclectic fleet of used covered hoppers... hopefully they survive.

I'm sure that's part of it, or at least it was a bonus. But out here (Waterloo, Cedar Rapids) CN locals are heavy on six axle use... wonder if IANR trackage can handle the bigger units CN will want to use? Cedar Rapids has been an SD60 the whole time I've been here with few exceptions, and they have it on all the industrial trackage they serve in town... granted only Treehouse brands trackage is questionable.

There's been a few days in the past months IANR's had a Sperry or similar highway truck out at the bridge over the Cedar River in NW Cedar Rapids, wondering if they've been looking at the bridge for defects. IANR will send unit corn trains down from Waterloo behind large sets of power, wonkiest I've seen was four F40's and three slugs, but five unit sets of geeps and F40's most common, so the bridge can take a fair amount of weight.

Hopefully they haul a Tim Horton's down to the US. We need more of them. The nearest one to me that I know of is all the way downtown at the PPG Paints Arena and I'm pretty sure it's only open when the Penguins are playing or when WWE is doin' wrasslin' there.

I think some of them originally CN units or did they have some GP40-2W's at one point?

They got rid of the MPs and picked up 2 more slugs a couple of years ago.. and just got 2 Ex CSX GP40-2s mothers.

I heard rumor they were going to acquire 3 ex NS slugs and 2 ex NS mothers, but not sure if that is still in the works.. or not.

Just to continue the thread drift, you know what I saw the most of when I was down in Queretaro, MX, earlier this year for work? Tim Horton’s; they’re like every half friggin mile on the NAFTA highway!!!

As for IANR, when I’m in Iowa for work next January I’ll have to try to finish up at my big green customer in Waterloo with enough sunlight to try to find the IANR on my way to Moline.

Since the Tim Horton's Burger King merger, I'm surprized they haven't moved the brand deeper into the US.

But here in the midwest.. the doughnut market is pretty saturated between Dunkin, Kwikstar, Hyvee and the specialty shops.. (Hurts, Icon, ect.)

.. I'd include Krispy Kreme, but they have shut down all Iowa locations except for Des Moines, and once they cool down, Kwikstar Glazers taste better to me..

How far south should I have to move to get away from Tim Horton's? half the reason I moved to Iowa was to get away from that nasty coffee and subpar donuts.

The only Canadian fast food America might need is Harvey's.

The donuts are greasy enough that no matter how far away you get, if you're downhill, you're not safe.
