Cupository Creek H0n30 Layout

Hello,

my name is Markus. and I'm following these forum for a few months now. Today I will show you my HOn30 layout project. Called Cupository Creek. The layout is loosly based on Carl Fallberg's Fiddletown and Copperopolis Ry. Durin the last year I have drawn about 10 different track plans, but in the end I returned to my first plan, which is these one.

Here my build segments of the lines teminus. The layout is sitting on some Ikea Billy cupboards. The parts for the layout segments are cut with my laser cutter.

I've printed out the trackplan and placed it on the first segments.

Here I have placed two former IHC kits on the segment. These will represent the ACME Outhouse factory. (I came to these idea, when I build my Marsh Creek 20ft wagons, as they are supplied with parts for one outhouse)

My locomotive and passenger cars are from Minitrains. I've changed the tender of the loco, and fitted a DCC chip to the locomotive. To improve pickup I bought a spare Bachmann 0-6-0/2-6-2 tender chassis, and fitted it under the tender shell, which was bought from Shapeways.

What you've done so far looks great, I look forward to seeing more.

There's a prototype for everything.
If you can't make it perfect, make it adjustable.

Hello Scott,

thank you for your reply. The last few days I've drawn the walls of my station building in a CAD program. The building is based on Carl Fallbergs drawings. Today I was able to cut the walls with my Laser cutter and I glued them together. For the windows I will use Tichy Trains windows and doors.

Yes!!! This is awesome!

I'd love to know more about adding the Bachmann chassis to the etnder and how you wired it into the locomotive, as I have that same loco and that same Shapeways tender shell.

Hello Dave,

as far as I recall, I only had to remove the cross from the underside of the tender shell. The Bachmann Tender chassis, fits in quite good, on my tender I don't need anything to secure it, it is a press fit.

Markus,

The station looks like it's coming along nicely, I'm hoping to pick up a laser cutter myself, although it will have to wait awhile as I just bought a new computer.  What kind of laser cutter are you using?

Are there points on the motor in the engine where pickups can be attached without modification?

The wires go from a pickup strip between the drivers to the top of the motor.

You could solder right to those tabs.

Yeah you could even splice right into the wires going to the motor if you don't wanna tear it apart. Same type of chassis:

Here I replaced the wires with PB solid wire. Block is a capacitor and I chopped the flywheel off.

If you get the body shell off there is a plastic piece with 2 screws (seen in last photo). Undo those and the contact strips will lift up and off. Don't recommend taking the bottom gear plate off unless you need to. The gears are very fine and kind of hard to get everything lined up at once to put the plate back on.

Hello,

today I was able to pickup a delivery at the post office. It contains, two Kibri/Viesmann kits of Wild West buildings. I did a quick assembly of them to have a look where to place them. Each kit contain three buildings.

20231204_142004 by mcruss1, on Flickr

In these picture I placed one of the bigger buildings on the left, in front of it is the base of a one story building called the Marshall Office.

20231204_142131 by mcruss1, on Flickr

The second picture is my favorite, I placed the Marshall Office in front of the tracks between the Acme Outhouse company and the engine service track. In front of the bigger building on the left I placed a smaller one. I also  consider to reduce the depth of the building on the left, so that it would be a half relief building. For the siding on along the left of these building I think I wll place a small Whisky distillery, as it is a ongoing theme on my british themed layouts to include a distillery.

Hello Scott,

I'm using an Atomstack laser bought on Ebay, about 2 or three years ago. It was one with the 5 Watt laser module. For paper, 3mm birchplywood and 1mm card it was ok, but it struggled with 3mm MDF. So these spring I bought a new 10 Watt laser module, to replace the old on. And 3mm MDF is no longer a problem, it took some time, but it is possible to cut it.

This is amazing Markus, I have some 3d track/tie strips that you can print and you can also use the Hon30 TTrak riser I made to connect the modules together. Your layout plan would be a perfect place for these items.

Let me know if you have any questions and want to collab?

Hello Tim,

thank you for your offer. I had a quick look on your site. It looks interesting, but I don't have a 3d printer by myself.

Markus

I’d be happy to trade 3d prints for laser work? If interested in that let me know.
