I'll Ask,

Has anyone tried these to see if they've improved from prior versions?

are these new? or just re-released?

What specific decoder (model number) are you asking about?  And what would you like to see improved?

Not a specific one or number per say, It is their N scale line, apparently a "new release" has come about. If you go on digitrax web page, they are the first thing to popup on the banner. I know their prior runs were very "quiet" I didn't know if these were any "louder" They were just released at the end of October. Just wondering if they had improved any with actual volume output.

The price point is very nice..

Oh, Digitrax sound decoders.  I don't deal with those (only non-sound Digitrax)  Sorry.

To be honest, I don't think many on this forum use Digitrax sound decoders.  I don't recall last time someone here mentioned one (besides you).  You might want to consider group dedicated to Digitrax to get some opinions.  See https://groups.io/g/Digitrax-Users  It seems quite active with over 7500 members.

Same here.  I tried helping a friend with a Digitrax sound decoder to map a function with a beacon light connected to it to a function.  We chose a function key which had a coupler clang on it. Well, the mapping was successful (we could turn the beacon on and off) but we couldn't unmap the sound from that function key, so the decoder would clang every time we activated the beacon.  The sound seems to be hard coded to a function. Seems that those decoders have very limited capability for customization (even something like basic remapping).  While the price is attractive, their capabilities are not. I guess you get what you paid for.
