Woodland Scenics wood light pole vs. homemade.

Aside from the homemade toothpick versions, I am making, I needed to have six for my Icing platform, so I decided to purchase the woodland scenics light poles. @keeper

I thought I would do a comparo. First, the Woodland scenics version on the right:

Now mine:

Both together lit in ambient light:

Both lit in darkness above my MOW truck.

I like them both, but for $19.99/3 lights, I think they are worth all of the effort I have been putting into my homemade version.

Are the wires on WS lamp poles also running on the outside of the pole, like on your version?

John,

Thanks for the comparison. They both look very good. So I think I give the WS light a try.

@peteski they are either cast or injection molded in clear material with the wires inside the pole and the arm. It's kind of impressive.  I will share more pics tonight.  The grey conduit running down the pole is cast and painted.  The painting is kinda sloppy, but I wouldn't want that job.

Well, I was wrong, the clear base fooled me.  :P  The wires are on the outside of the pole and covered by that silver streak of paint:

Wires at base of WS light:

WS LED and reflector arm, both sides:

Full WS pole, both sides:

By comparison here is mine:

Thinking I could engrave a groove down the pole on mine and fill in with CA before paint. This woul also hide the hole where the reflector arm goes through or I could paint the wires with galvanized paint color.

Most wood streetlight poles of my recollection have either conduit running up the pole from the ground, or have aerial wires to/from another pole or building.

The latter includes such a pole at my layout building:

Yes, that's exactly what I'm thinking after seeing the details of the WS light pole.  Aren't similar lamp poles sold on eBay for fraction of the WS price?

Similar in purpose, but not wood pole-gooseneck yet. Eve makes them and Atlas resells them. $11 for a 3 pack
so far, older semi modern Incandescent- shoe shaped fixtures
Modern LED, Box shaped fixtures
Ornate Streetlamps wish are resold by Noch I believe

This is the eBay page for their N Scale lighting: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dkr=1&iconV2Request=true&_blrs=recall_filtering&_ssn=cnmodelnt&store_name=cnmodelnt&_oac=1&_nkw=n+scale&store_cat=2240666018&rt=nc&Gauge=N&_dcat=180250

Not much there as you mentioned.
