As as subset of a larger project that I'm researching and working on.. (like I need more projects).. And more on that in the Layout Thread soon...

I discovered that Rapido is making British N scale..

https://rapidotrains.co.uk/secr-freight-packs-n-gauge/
https://rapidotrains.co.uk/br-diagram-1-191-oaa-open-wagon-n-gauge/
https://rapidotrains.co.uk/metropolitan-vickers-type-2-british-rail-class-28/
https://rapidotrains.co.uk/conflat-p/

Way out of the price range for what I'm working on.. but cool none the less!.

Probably,

but my project is focused on Thomas the Tank Engine in N scale, and filling out my freight car 'wagon'/'truck' fleet to go with the Thomas Stuff.

This is the main N Gauge UK forum.

RMWeb has some N and 2mm finescale, but is mostly OO, although all of it is well worth a look.

Just a quick question:

UK N scale is 1:150.

Is Rapido UK N Scale 1 : 150 (grossly out of scale) or 1 : 160?

With grossly out of scale I mean the fact that it is very visible. Just try to mix containers in 1 : 150 and 1 : 160.

(AFAIK japanese steam locos made by Kato are also 1 : 150, but I am not sure.)

Cheers

Javier

I have a large collection of US and UK outline in N. The smaller UK prototype loading gauge sort of evens things out if you put them on a layout together. Appreciate may not be quite so straightforward when it comes to containers.

British N is 1:148, for ancient manufacturing reasons.  For full info heed the master: http://www.davidksmith.com/birth-of-n/index.htm

I work this out as about a 6% difference - appreciable when items are seen together.

A belated thanks for the website references. A very recent trip to England and lots of train travel there is leading me down the UK N "gauge" rabbit hole. My credit card is shivering at the thought of exorbitant international shipping fees in the future...

See below... I ordered 25ish N scale cars and express DHL shipping was about $20 US

Thanks Ian!

Hatton's looks like a winner! That shipping cost is not that bad at all.

Don't worry about the shipping costs; it's actually cheaper to buy UK models here in the US, including shipping, than it is to buy them off the shelf in the UK thanks to their very high taxes (that don't apply to sales to the US).

Regarding Hattons, be aware that due to silly politics they do not stock any new Bachmann products, which means you won't be able to find any new Graham Farish stock, which constitutes more than 50% of the available variety of N scale British stock types. Because of this, I usually order from Rails of Sheffield; they do stock Graham Farish and their international shipping is pretty good.

What is a Brake Van?
I assume all of the cars have brakes - so is this basically a caboose?

And what is a Brake Coach?
Like a regular coach with crew quarters?
