George:  For the time and effort spent masking, I would have painted them with a brush!

I can relate to George's "problem" - I like to airbrush everything too.

Roof and car looks great, and thanks for the KD plug!

Starting to run low on the etched stock for this kit.

Good idea - and I tried that first .  I struggled to get the paint to both cover well and be smooth without straying where it shouldn't go.  After 30' of that I decided to pause, and after looking at the mediocre results I decided to go ahead and mask.    Both techniques (brush & mask) are tedious, but masking is both less stressful and (for me) yields a more reliable result.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Following up on my weekend post, here are some shots of my horse car running on my club's layout. Many of my other head end cars are also featured. Also a bonus shot of my train hitting a downed tree on the line.

Would be REALLY COOL to see these track through a superelevated curve on a special. The bogey assemblies look great!

I started work on a caboose for my NYC "Pacemaker" freight train this afternoon.  While this kit is not exact series of waycars that NYC used for this service, it will give the look of the cars they did use.

Photos are great modeling tools.  After taking the photos of the car sitting on the trucks, I thought it sat too high and I've since removed some of the material under the trucks so that it sits lower.

Cool.. I've been interested in ordering this kit for it's intended purpose.. I assume the backs of the outer body panels are smooth.
I'm curious if you had put the sides on 'inside out' would you get the smooth plywood finish of the Pacemaker caboose?

I was going to build my pacemaker caboose by using a Life Like / Minitirx steel caboose - smoothing the sides - filling a few windows and lowering the cupola.

But using this kit as a basis is probably more true to prototype.
