Whoa!  More details?

I based it off this photo:

The model is an MTL horse car with Keystone Details conversion kit: http://www.keystonedetails.com/products/n-scale-details/2016/9/3/n-scale-prr-b74b-roof-and-door-kit-for-mt-horse-ca?rq=B74b

Decals are from Microscale REX reefers sheet.

The plan is to apply some clear orange paint to tone down the “blueish” tint of the regular Gyra Light.  I might even apply a fourth coat of clear red paint to the red Gyra Light.

Nice job Dave!
I wonder why not just use red LED for the red Gyra Light?  It would produce a rich intense read light.  White LED is just a blue LED with additional phosphor which converts some of the blue light to mainly yellow light (which does extend to some greens and reds, but there isn't much of the upper red spectrum there). A red LED emits light that is specifically in the red spectrum.

I started work on a caboose for my NYC "Pacemaker" freight train this afternoon.  While this kit is not exact series of waycars that NYC used for this service, it will give the look of the cars they did use.

Photos are great modeling tools.  After taking the photos of the car sitting on the trucks, I thought it sat too high and I've since removed some of the material under the trucks so that it sits lower.

Howdy Folks,

I swapped out the mechanism in my Key DS-4-4-1000 with a Bachmann

The starting point:

Bachmann chassis stripped down:

Bachmann chassis modified:

Bachmann chassis is ready for its new body:

The swap is complete -- (Next up: weathering the trucks )

Thanks,
Wolf

Honestly, it never occurred to me to use a red LED.  That said, the lens on the prototype is clearly red when unlit, so using a red LED behind a clear lens would lack that feature, and, since most of the time, the red Gyra Light is not lit, that would probably bother me, especially after all of this effort.

Thanks,

Oh, and here is a close up of the cab front on the model (duh!), showing the red lens on the emergency Gyra Light.  This was achieved with three applications of Tamiya Clear Red.  I think it looks good.

Spent the weekend relaxing and working on the 1st Pier. The structure is nearly complete and painting/weathering is well under way. I had to paint everything before completing the walkways on the tackle beams which then get a coat of black.

Here & there, I designed out the Pier Facade in AI

It is currently under construction from styrene

Should look really nice when complete.

I only had time to paint a few detail parts for the Canaan shop and yard.  More info in my layout thread

Fresh from the paint shop.  The latest addition to the Laurel Valley Retro Fleet.

The ancient and venerable Atlas C Liner.

Also a freshly lettered A1G boxcar. (Might be Trix)  I oversprayed the WM markings and kept the data.  The red I used was a pretty good match!

Painted the steps - just the steps - black, on my Golden State power.

Took an entire afternoon just to mask them off!  Something like 70 pieces of tape per engine to keep the black paint from wandering.

You are more fastidious than me George.  :) I would have just stuffed a wad of paper towel inside the shell.

Most of the tape pieces are around the steps - and are quite small. At least 5 pieces per step, more for the steps over the fuel tank.
After that, using tape to mask of the windows, stacks, etc. on the inside of the shell was a piece of cake.

Spotted this on Virtual Railfan a month or two ago, spent thirty minutes recreating it in Fusion and added it to the list of water washable prints I've been doing... thus far I've not yet figured out a good workflow for the water washable 8k. Cleanup isn't as easy as the IPA washes.
