K-Line Heavyweights Passenger cars trucks & couplers crumbling

Anyone else experiencing 1990's K-line O scale Heavyweight Passenger cars with crumbling truck side frames & wheels & couplers from zinc pest impurities ? I bought 3 of them years ago & repainted them & decaled them with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus decals. Have been running them with my circus train, but have noticed lately a crumbling side frame on one & a broken off coupler on another. I have heard this is a problem that has happened going back years. These have 6 wheeled trucks. My question is does anyone know of or has put on trucks from another brand that works.  K-line has been gone for years and Lionel offers nothing. 2 train repair service stores I've gone to have nothing to offer as a replacement. I can't believe that other people having this problem are just trash canning them.

There's a prototype for everything.
If you can't make it perfect, make it adjustable.
DCC is not plug-n-play.

That's the K-line by Lionel catalog from 2009. Those pictured don't have couplers. I need the coupler. I have crumbled ones. I went to a train store which is also a Lionel service station & they couldn't find any listings
