I heard containers on chassis riding a train indicate a different forwarder, ie. perhaps UPS is the shipper with different schedules to meet...

So you're saying expedited shipping schedules are leading to different contractual arrangements that affect where the chassis goes?  I guess I can see that.

I'm sure there's more than one thing going on, and differences between railroads.  UP doesn't seem to do actual TOFC barely at all anymore at least in my area, and the chassis I see being moved around mostly empty are owned by UP. (UPHZ)  My impression is that UP takes responsibility for providing chassis when containers go on the road and so they need to shuffle chassis around between terminal service areas from time to time.  And if they place a container on a chassis on a train for convenience, the two together may have nothing to do with the shipment contract.  By contrast, BNSF still does a fair amount of real TOFC and don't think I've ever seen a BNSF owned chassis.  So if you want to drive a container+plus chassis to their terminal and have them treat it the same as a trailer contractually, I imagine they don't blink an eye.  But if you want only the container to go on the train, BNSF will expect you to provide a chassis at the other end.

Anyway, container-on-chassis-on-train has a history as long as containers on trains, so probably just another cyclical fluctuation in business practices.

Here is a flyer for all the 3 pack schemes that have been announced to our distributors. Stock is limited and we anticipate that these will be hard to come by once in the marketplace.

Photos of the 20-ft and 53-ft chassis have been posted on the JTC website. https://jtcmodeltrains.com/collections/container-chassis

Check with your favorite hobby shop because some are showing as "sold out" at JTC.

The wheels on one side seem to protrude slightly. I haven't looked too closely.

This is such a nice model - the magnet works just right - finally something for those spine cars...

The tires and wheels are separate moldings, so it is an easy fix if the tire isn't "seated" quite flush with the wheel rim.

Also, the axle diameter on the JTC chassis is for all practical purposes identical to most N scale trailer models that have steel axles.  Therefore, you can change the appearance of the chassis with a wheel swap.

The photo below shows a JTC 40-ft chassis with Micro-Trains spoke wheels.

Does anyone know if Lombard ever stocked these? I check their site daily and never saw them.

I got an email from N Scale Supply yesterday saying they couldn't fulfil any of my reservations due to a manufacturer shortage.

Had a look around and didn't see any at Lombard or MTS, but it looks like Hogtrainz still has some instock.

JTC will probably rerun these with different numbers sometime next year. They seem to do that all the time with their more popular container roadnames.
I like JTC. 🙂
