3D print, I did not print it, but have done all the paint, decals, flat finish. It is ready for glass, couplers, and the KATO C44-9 power chassis to be placed under it:

Thanks for looking,

Completed and ready to run as the 1:1 did in late 2020 on the Barstow - Stockton route. This consist will head up a stack train during our upcoming Fair show.

Nice!

I do wonder what this experiment will take us. They are making a new one with 3 times the battery capacity.

Part of me wonders if this is the right move though. I wonder if battery cars with built in dynamic recharge and power distribution for existing (modified) engines would be more economical in the long run.

I also am starting to wonder if we have hit the end of the line of newly produced engines. It seems we have hit an apex of chassis design and would only need to refurbish power equipment and consumables. Some GP40-2s are hitting 50 this year and still on class 1 railroads with a few rebuilds.

And considering SD40-2 derivatives like the Class 66 are still being manufactured new for export. I doubt the spare part pool is drying up anytime soon.
