Attached some scanned pictures of a super Garratt engine.

JAM convention was held on 8/19 to 8/21/2022 in Tokyo, Japan and he joined it as a modeler’s presentation.
(JAM means Japan Association of Model Railroaders)

Here is the Super Garratt engine applied 2 x Atlas mallet mechanism and scratch built by him.

Sorry I cannot attach a movie of it due to large size of 36MB.

Now I could attach the movie as a topic of my Facebook below.

https://www.facebook.com/ryoichi.fukushima.90

It could pull 110+ MTL 40' cars at that time, but could do 160 cars according to his previous test.

Cheers,

I have seen sketches of a similar locomotive, but think this is the first time I've seen one built, in any scale.

The N&W should have had one.

That loco from the meet blows my mind.

And I always get teary when I see the Humvees.  Not because I served or have a thing for military trains, but because my Father worked briefly for a DC-area engineering firm between his time in the Navy and being recruited by NSA, and that firm was part of the Humvee design team.  He used to bring early concept drawings of it home (I probably shouldn't be saying this).  I wish I knew where they went, but I'm not done going through his papers.  I did find a set of architectural drawings of the SCOTUS if any lawyer types are looking for decor for their office.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Another engines by Mr. Tohnishi: they are UP taste Quadruplex and Triplex.
The original sketch was made by Baldwin.

Sorry, I have no movie of them.

I'm no fan of fantasy models or paint schemes. In fact, I didn't even bother opening this thread until this morning.
But WOW :o The craftsmanship on display here is astounding and the finishes are impeccable.
My hat's off to Mr. Tohnishi and his imagination.

Assuming they are N scale, these have amazing level of detail.  I'm especially impressed with the delicate looking valve gear.  Usually N scale valve gear is out of scale (links are too thick).

Are these actually operational, like the Super Garratt, or just  static models?

This type of engine was used on 1:1 railroads to pull very heavy trains (like long coal or ore trains).  They would get dirty very fast so they were usually painted black.  But since it is a fantasy railroad, blue is a nice color.

Thanks Otto K and peteski.
I passed your comments and questions to Tohnishi-san, and he may make his responses very soon.
Anyhow I know the engine each runs very smoothly and powerful.

According to Ohnishi-san, 2 units of the 2-8-8-2 mechanism by Atlas/Key Imports were applied to the Quadruplex which has 2 motor-method, and the Triplex consists of 3 motors.  Both are equipped with DCC sound system and the speakers are installed in the boilers instead of tenders.

I don't think I've seen a model Garrett in N scale before, of any type.  I'd be interested in see this written up for one of the N scale magazines.

Thank you for the info 0303fxm.   Very impressive models.  Ohnishi-san is a true craftsman.

I wonder where Ohnishi-san found all those Atlas/Key Imports models.  They have been long out of production.

Thanks N Kalanaga and peteski,

He will soon make a written up on the quadruplex in a Japanese model magazine but not in English.

He told me he got the mechanism of 2-8-8-2 Atlas/Key Import thru an auction site in Japan.

Sorry my fault: His name is Tohnishi-san instead of Ohnishi-san.
