Does anyone know of an article or a thread about converting 2 Bachman doodlebugs into a Sperry rail car?

There's an article in the Sept/Oct 2014 issue of N Scale Railroading.

Beware of white gear disease on the Bachmann drives, I ended up repowering mine with a Tomytec chassis, ran far better than the original.  The wheels literally fell off of the power truck.

There is a fix for the cracked axles. See https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=49440.0
But I agree that re-powering with a Tomytec chassis is not only easier, but the mechanism is superior to Bachmann.

Hi Pete

Do you happen to know the model number of the appropriate Tomytec chassis?  Thanks in advance!  harry

IMHO, The repower that Randy pioneered is far superior, and, to me, was less work

That was my statement too.  But I figured that I'll mention that if someone is married to the Bachmann mechanism and its cracked white gears, a fix is possible.

I have not done this conversions so I do not know, but @randgust  should be able to answer that.

I'm surprised no one has created a detailed body on Shapeways.  Maybe that's a Briggs request?

Here's my thread on repowering the Bachmann doodlebug.  I stretched a TM23 chassis (long one, short truck wheelbase)

It would be great if NSR were available digitally...
