As teased in last week’s Weekend Update, I’m working on Ed K.’s HO scale Bachmann 4-4-0 and turning it into Central of Georgia No. 349.  I still need to decal the other side and probably apply some more decal setting solution, but here’s an in-progress shot:

I have a big project ahead of me.  Large house cat included for scale.

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

This soon-to-be Penn Central SD45 needs all of its handrails scratchbuilt, plus the usual paint, decals, and re-wiring for TCS sound.  I’ve wanted an SD45 for ages, as they were often photographed leading trains on the ex-NYC line up the Grand Canyon of PA from Williamsport’s Newberry Junction to Corning, NY.  It may be damaged and incomplete, but it’s what I could budget for, and I think this will be fun!

Another week, and here's another picture from me.  This is the Carter Oil distributorship in Jefferson.  Don't ask what I used for tank cores, because I don't remember!  Some cardboard tubes of some kind.  They're overlaid with printed and embossed paper.  These are pre-Windows, at least for me, so the printing was lines of rivets (individual dots), on a dot-matrix printer, generated by a Basic program I wrote.  The valves, stairs and walkways are Plastruct, the fence I believe is GHQ, the pipes brass rod.  The office is plastic and paper, from an ancient magazine article (MR late 60s?), and was intended to be a sandhouse.  I thought it looked more like a office/storeroom, and this is the third version I've built over the years, all for versions of Carter Oil.

No, it's NOT named for Jimmy Carter.  I've been using the name since my very first "under-the-bed" layout, in the late 60s.  It came from the Great Northern's Kalispell branch, where Carter Oil was listed as a business spur not at a station.  This is #2, but, from the one web page I could find that mentioned the company, they apparently had multiple locations.  It probably should be #20.

Nice to see more of your layout nkalanga!
The fence looks to me like Gold Medal Models stainless steel etched chain-link fencing.

Nothing from me this weekend as all my projects are waiting for it to get warm enough to use the airbrush the basement.

Joy and I are going to Germany for our 15 year anniversary. We will be taking the ICE from Munich to Stuttgart and Finally Frankfurt. As I have done in the past, I will pick up the model of the train we take when I know what series we will be taking. If it is the ICE-4, then Kato has a nice model that just came out. It will join the Eurostar, Shinkansen 500, Acela, and the NEX in my high speed collection.

I really want to pick up a new watch while I'm there. I have several in mind.

Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Fixed tge track in the Browns Yard Module, redid the Catenary poles. This type will be the one used out in the wild, while a less sturdy but more prototypical one will be used at home.

I finished up two more cars for my L&N Pan American today (other than weathering).  Diner #2727 Postlethwaits Tavern and Observation Car Harvest Inn (This is NOT the car name that should be on this car, but it's all I had and I thought it sounded good....).

Modelflex B&O Royal Blue for the  bodies and Wabash Grey for the roofs.  Lettering is from www.greatdecals.com and the 2" and 1" stripes are from Microscale.

I installed MT Z scale 905's on the diner and the front end of the observation car; put a MT true scale coupler on the observation end.  Fox Valley 36" low profile metal wheels complete the upgrades.

The train is coming along nicely.

Forgive me, Railwire brothers, for I have sinned…

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

…and apparently the wages of this particular sin includes faded Conrail Blue fingers.

But kidding aside, it was a nice hour or so in my wife’s craft room as we both worked on stuff.  She had nail polish remover out to remove paint from a display figure, and then I took a turn removing can openers from my SD45.  Family fun for everyone!

Paint and decals to follow.  The 60+ degree forecast for tomorrow should be ideal painting conditions.

Peteski:  You're right - Gold Medal Models.  I don't know why I thought of GHQ, as I don't remember them ever making fencing, or other scenery material.

Thank you!
