Tungsten alloy?  Tungsten is an element.  Is Tungsten alloy just a fancy way of saying impure Tungsten?  :P

Alloys where Tungsten is the primary component?  :D

Tungsten alloy sounds better to this layman then a jumble of letters!  :D

Tungsten is a very hard, and difficult to machine metal. Alloys make machining it easier.  The little Dapol Terrier 0-6-0 loco I own has weights made from Tungsten. They appear to be made from sintered tungsten.

Brass would be good metal to use in this application. It is more dense than the white metal that is usually used for making N scale cars, it is also easy to machine, cast, and it is stiff enough to be used for structural parts.

Right, I definitely meant Tungsten.  (Typical physicist's mistake.)  I know that Tim ( @BCR 570 ) has a source for custom machined stock that he occasionally orders from; that's the lead I would explore first.   I recall that it wasn't cheap, but definitely not $200+ per car!

LOL @davefoxx - that's a classic.  :D

Boy you were not kidding about 60 for a single car on ebay. I have 29 total that I will be selling. I'll put them up here in the trading post later today. No I will not be selling for 60 a piece. Not looking to rip anyone off. I have 12 BN, 6 CN, 3 Tobacco Valley, 3 Cascade Warehouse, 1 SSAM, 1 TTZX, and 3 MR. I'll figure out a price when I post. I don't have the original cases but they are in two Deluxe Inovation boxes with foam made specifically for these cars.

The impure tungsten I had milled for my 44 tonner was 90%:
Quote
90% is 17.12g/cm3, 7% nickel, and 3% iron. Pure would have been 19.25g/cm3

N "Modern" 73' Centerbeams are on my to-do list, although it may be some time till I get to them. Such a simple car, what's the fun? (I only jest)

I have done a centerbeam already - the BNSF Flexibeam, but as there are only 200 of them out there, printing remains for another day (I did 1 test print when I first moved printing in-house, but further R&D remains till another day)

Please excuse the poor quality image (and the makeshift trucks):
