Work progresses on the NYC flat and RDG gon from last week.  Meanwhile, another project I've started recently is a correctly-scaled GP35 shell that is the right width. I'd like to eventually make all the phases, but since I could use a CSX Roadmate I began with that (since it's less work :D).  The first test print came out great!  Just needs a few tweaks (like the fan housing is too thin to glue a BLMA fan onto and the the rivets on the dynamic brakes are too small to see).

Which chassis would you use for a GP35 (or CSX RDMT, GP30, etc) with a scale width hood?

Definitely has the "chug chug" of a GE.

Ah, that is why it sometimes (especially at the start of the video) it sounded almost like steam loco chuffing.  In tunnels, when fuller sound reflected back to the microphone, it sounded more like what I would expect a Diesel loco to sound like. But since I know Jim's layout is in a Diesel era, I knew it couldn't be a steam loco.

I discovered several years ago it's possible to use the original Atlas mechanism.  You just have to mill the wide parts.  Here's some old photos describing what I did.  It then needs a motor with the narrower flywheels and narrow motor saddle.
