    • Trying to model the BCR Fort St John BC (again)...while living in Australia (what could possibly go wrong?)

Did a bit of weathering this week starting with this Micro-Trains PGE insulated boxcar.   This one used a combination of acrylic washes, artists oils and weathering powders.    This was my first attempt weathering with oils and I quite enjoyed it.    The very long drying time makes it easy to just wipe off any mistakes.

I ran the first Westward freight out of Brittain to staging and mocked up Goodyear Plant 2 this week.  A very good week.  More in the AC&Y LE thread.

RS2s went into the paint booth this morning! I'm a little rusty, but pleased with how these are turning out. Kudos to who ever came up with the paper towel tube trick!

Well, as somebody who was born in the city of Sleepy Eye,...
(Sorry for the lousy cell phone pic. Better stuff coming eventually.)

Jim

I don't consider the pic to be lousy at all.
Perfectly good scene and I'd love to be engaged in scenicing a layout again. I do miss the efforts, tribulations and socialising a lot...
good work Jim, d  :

Work progresses on the NYC flat and RDG gon from last week.  Meanwhile, another project I've started recently is a correctly-scaled GP35 shell that is the right width. I'd like to eventually make all the phases, but since I could use a CSX Roadmate I began with that (since it's less work :D).  The first test print came out great!  Just needs a few tweaks (like the fan housing is too thin to glue a BLMA fan onto and the the rivets on the dynamic brakes are too small to see).

That's awesome !  I could use a couple mates myself.  A friend of mine started on one for me, but life has gotten in the way so progress has stalled on that project

I did the same car a couple of years ago using chalks.

And here is a "real one", albeit a different road number.

I was never 100% happy with the Sandy Creek observation car (former Norfolk Southern CEO Wick Moorman's private railcar) I built using an old Concor coach, so I was very happy Kato made kits available of the 20th Century Limited observation car. I haven't gotten a lot done so far other than the rear coupler pocket and the interior chairs.

I seem to be on a roll this weekend doing things the old skool way:
A modified Bachmann 4-8-4 that is nowhere near complete and looks a bit rough.

Today I installed ESU Loksound in my Kato 2-8-2 Mikado custom painted and decaled for Delaware Lackawanna & Western. This install was possibly my most challenging to date. Lots of wires and multiple failures on my part resulted in a very long installation. I am still not done, due to the Mike getting no power, I had to wire up the tender trucks a la HO Scale, and I only wired one to test. I will go back and wire the second one later. For now, it works, intermittently with only the front tender truck and the drivers, and I am pleased about that. I have not written a sound file to it yet, but it will get the Heavy Mikado V5 sound file.

Progress continues on the RBB&B baby elephant truck. Should be able to finish the model this coming week.

I picked up some more N scale Hercules Powder Company tank cars and got them weathered this morning.

Hercules Powder was the operating contractor of the Badger Army Ammunition Plant in Sauk City, WI. These cars would have been interchanged with both the Milwaukee Road and CNW as both railroads served the huge plant up until the 1980's. I have 6 or 7 various tanks cars lettered for the company now and use them on my home layout during operating sessions (I have a branch that runs to Sauk City, WI).

The top car is an older Intermountain car while the bottom two are the new Atlas releases. I've replaced the trucks on all three cars with MT Bettendorf trucks and MT metal wheels.
While the Atlas cars details are pretty crude, they fill in nicely for a roadname that is prototypical to my home layout.
