I put in an order for the N8 along with a few detail parts. I'll report back when I get them.

So I removed these from the sprue and painted the shell because it was printed in translucent green resin.

The side view isn't bad. The model scales well with the Bower N5C. The body (minus the elongated porches) is about 12" longer than the N5. I was worried about striations when looking at the translucent shell, but most of this has been mitigated with a nice dose of sandable auto primer.

Here is a more direct comparison to the Bowser car. The windows need to be addressed, these should be rectangles and not arched. I believe this was a printing error. The bolster notches also miss printed on this side, but they should file down nicely. I'm not sure what's going on with the cupola. There is a vertical area under the windows that should not be there. I don't see how to fix that.

Here you can see the porches a bit better. Clearly these will need to be cleaned up a bit, though they do not look nearly as bad in person. If there is a surface that would have striations, this is the best part as it is not going to be as visible due to the long porch. I'll sand down the primer and see how this looks after.

The underframe is basic but gets the job done. One of the steps miss-printed and another detached during extraction. Lots to work on before assembly. Anyone know what the porch was made of? Was it wood, diamond tread?

End view shows that this is a basic model, and will need plenty of sanding.

So there you have it. It's an N8 for sure and I think with enough time, it should looks pretty good.

So, the end doors are just sort of implied?

Yeah, the layer lines are a bit odd. And there is no hardware detail for the doors, but I think both problems can be mitigated.

The biggest issue i see is that the cupola isn't quite right. I think some filing along the sides to reshape it may be useful. I do think the kit will look good once finished. I will certainly be buying the dual track Russell plow and the N11 cabin. I may also buy a few slugs but they never really operated in the area.

How will you sand the striations on the ends without also sanding off the rivets?

The rivets are in rows, so I hope to use swizel stick sanders between the these rows. I am also going to try and scrape the area with an exacto chisel blade to see if that will flatten things out. It won't need to be 100% because the cab end is inset so far from the car end.

Awesome! Thanks!

Glad to see some close up pics.

I think I might grab one when I see them again, or have a reason to place an order with them.

You know, a write up of this would be awesome for the Conrail Quarterly.
