ESU Warranty question/s

So, as some of you saw in last weekends update, I was attempting to install a ESU Loksound 71399 into a Athearn SD70 series locomotive.
Long story short,
Got it installed *and* running, a bit, backwards. CV29 was no help either, so I figured I'd rewire the motor contacts and after I did that well you know *POOF!*

As it turns out, while re-soldering the wires to the pads, I guess part of my solder joint or wire snapped and touched the frame enough to kill the decoder.
So am I completely FKD or does their warranty cover stuff like this?

Important bits just a FYI
Kapton tape went around the board over the motor and speaker pads, double thickness.
frame was "milled" on both sides away from the motor tabs, and below the board to allow it to clear any part that was not contact pads.

ESU has great customer service and I have found them to be exceptionally accommodating. I suggest you contact ESU, explain the situation and see what they say.

I have used ESU’s warranty twice  and they have been excellent. No questions asked.

Print out the warranty submission page from ESU's web site or the LokSound manual; fill it out; attach your receipt along with the decoder; send it in.  If the decoder is less than 1 year old, ESU will likely replace it for free, even though the faulty is user error.  At worst, they will charge you a $35 "repair" fee (they don't repair anything, they just send you a new one).  Either way, you're way ahead of buying a new decoder.

Thanks guys I will definitely contact ESU, because I am not ready to drop ~$100 on a new decoder again. I guess for now I can figure out the ditch light solution...
