Tried-out weathering pencils on this boxcar.  More practice needed, I think.

See davefoxx's and wazzou's posts above.  Sorry I was being sophmorish.   :D

I suspect that Ed (or all people) knew exactly what you meant (but failed to add a smiley, like  maybe  ;) ).

The Seaboard Central dragged out “Gull,” a/k/a the Party Bus, for the road’s annual Halloween Express.

This weekend, I added more kudzu behind and on the west end of the trestle.  The scene is approaching completion, except for final detailing like line poles and Kudzu Jesus.

The hoarding of obsolete technology continues.

A 1970 vintage Bachmann Northern, and a 1974 Atlas F9

And all that hoarding begets some necessary organizing.

I ordered a bunch of VHS boxes, very handy for that rolling stock that arrives without the original packaging.  You just have to grind off the old spool keepers, and line it with bubble wrap.

If I start feeling fancy I'll print labels for the boxes.

I made some progress on CN 8952 this weekend. The paint is all Tru-Color and the decals are from Circus City.

Realizing that more than one  :ashat: has built three layouts in the time that its taken me to build three modules  I felt particularly motivated to take some strides on the Long Run module. Roughed in terrain, sculptamold, and fascia. I have the day off tomorrow and only have to work a half day Tuesday. Hoping to get scenery down and really start on the river. Also a box of goodies showed up from Canada! Further motivation to finish my corner modules so I can start building turnouts!

It's been a long time since I have posted in Weekend Update.  Here is the peninsula project as a blank canvas in October 2019.

Here it is today.  I was close to finished in June 2020 with the NMRA National Convention bus tour scheduled to arrive on July 15.  When that was cancelled progress slowed but it is now about finished (nothing is ever truly finished).

An Illinois State Trooper rides the rear of a Illinois Department of Corrections bus.  I filled a number of seats on those busses before I retired.

The two story retro-bakery kitbash was done 25+ years ago and refreshed as a metal works in honor of WM3798

The Kedzie Avenue CTA bus garage.  Thanks to Peteski for the decals!

The cut-away building next to the Campbells' Soup water tower which was a fixture on Chicago's South side.

.
Best regards,

Roger

Roger, you have a beautiful layout (and your photography skills aren't bad either).   It looks quite realistic, probably due in part to the colors you use.  The muted colors work really well.  The lighting likely makes a difference too.

I've had the honor of seeing Roger's layout in person. It's as incredible as the pictures allude. Overwhelming, actually, especially the cityscapes. One thing that impresses me more than anything else is the constant improvement - he's not afraid to notice something that "could be better" and, indeed, do the necessary creative destruction, as illustrated by the project renovating the peninsula.

I wish I had half Roger's energy in seeing major objectives to their conclusions. I just dabble, by comparison any progress seems to be a happy accident.

@Roger Holmes - Your layout is absolutely phenomenal.
What I'd give to have that available room again...
Even if I had, I'm not sure I could accurately portray the same realism that you've managed to pull off.
Very, very nice.
