Tree Trunk Color?

After quite some time going back through old threads, I cannot figure out what spray paint I should use for deciduous tree trunks. I believe it was a Rustoleum color in a gray-brown, but I do not have the old spray can to refer to.
Help!
@Ed Kapuscinski
?
Thanks,

Not to get pedantic, but it depends on the species of tree. The bark will vary from darker greys to pale, almost silvery greys, with a range of textures. But they're nearly all a slightly warm grey color; I've not seen any that are "brown" in the classic sense of that color, except that some turn sort of brownish when the bark gets wet. (Dave, I know you're unable to discern some of the subtleties, but trust me, you can't go wrong with medium slightly warm grey.) Here are some reference images, which include a variety of trees including oak, maple, tulip poplar, beech and some others.

Yes, all kidding aside some trees are indeed brown, but most tend to be as shown in DKS's pix. Some are almost white (birch, some aspen).

Sycamore and eucalyptus, too. Found this in a quick search:

I paint all my trees grey. I add washes of dark brown and sometimes metallic silver. I've actually taken paint samples out and matched them to trees. THe amount of wash I use depends on the tree species. Silver maple is one of my favorites.
Oak trees are have a pretty warm grey with deep bark for brown washes and white drybrushing to highlight the texture.
Birch I use aluminum paint and highlight with dark dark brown washes.
I grew up in the woods, I miss it...

Try painting the trunk your choice of base gray color, then gently use a brass wire brush to put some vertical scratches into the paint. Then use your dark washes to settle into the scratches. This will nicely simulate heavy bark like oak.

Also remember the color shades is due in part to the texture of the bark. Smoother barks tend to be lighter than rougher texture bark.

Depending on your climate, they may be green or gray-green, due to lichen and moss.

My trees have a bunch of lichen on them, but I don't see it unless it rains.
