So they just scramble up a rope or something behind the tipple?

There is a ladder to the right, but that would be used to reach the chute lever.

Really like how this is turning out !  Are you taking it to the spring narrow gauge meet in Boardman ?

Yes assuming they have it this year. Last year was a no go.

Edit should be:
Yes assuming they have it next year. This year was a no go.

Painted up the smaller tipple.

And put foundations under the larger tipple:

And took a crappy pic:

Gonna need a bigger backdrop to be able to take photos  :|  It is hard to tell in the photos, but the rocks over hang the track and the trees over hand the rocks.

Todays progress: go down to the basement and see a small stream of water coming from the hot water tank going to the floor drain.

I had wrapped it in insulation and when I tore it off found I wrote the day I installed it in marker. 6/14/11 so it lasted 9 years.  :|

I see it was rated to last 6 years... And while looking for a replacement the 12 year models are exactly twice the price. Maybe I'll just install quick disconnects on everything...

Oh, crap.  My water heater was installed the year before we moved in to our home in 2012, so it's also nine years old.  Mine is right in my face when I enter the train room, so I'll see the trickle when it starts.  Not looking forward to that expense.

Knowing me I bought the absolute cheapest when I installed it so guess I'm lucky it lasted 9 years. Looks like $400 for a new one.

Heater installed, boy that was fun. Water & gas lines too long and had to be chopped.

Go to light it and the little sparker thingie does work at all. I hade to light it with the sparker from the old tank and some jumper wires
Then I look up and the manufacture date is Sept 2020. They just built this thing and it's defective.

The gas water heater in my parent’s home lasted 30+ years... then we sold the house so it could still be going. Never leaked a drop. Very soft water.

I’m on my 3rd electric water heater in our current home in 25+ years. Very hard water, although none have leaked.

I'm going to derail/hijack Chris' thread.  Do you guys do any maintenance to your water heaters?  I had a plumber tell me one time that it's not worth draining the tank to replace the sacrificial rods, because that invites the drain to leak when the sediment gets caught up in the shut off.  So, in other words, I do no maintenance, which is consistent with my laziness.  At present, my water heater is approximately nine years old.

Hi Dave.  I do my own water heater maintenance and change those anodes every three years. In changing them I drain and flush out the heater as part of the process and have never had the “crap in the drain valve” problem.  However after nine years I doubt changing the anodes now will help longevity of your heater to any meaningful extent and if you do change them, yes you may find flushing out the sediment to be an issue.  Good luck.

Hey Coaltrain welcome to the Railwire!

As for the water heater. I've drained a few buckets of water out of mine. But what I'm reading now is you should shut off the burner and drain all the water. Then when drained, fill it up and drain again. Most of the crap will come out last.

For fun I tried un screwing the rod of the old heater and it was stuck. I got a breaker bar, but couldn't stop the whole tank from spinning and gave up.

About once a year I need to clean out all my faucet screens for sediment. After the new heater was installed and I turned the water back on the sediment clogged my kitchen faucet deep inside. I tore it out and blew air backwards through it, but it was still clogged. So a day to replace the faucet and a day for my back after crawling under there. Now it seems like a week since I've worked on the layout. And looking out side the leaves will be calling me soon.

Also on page 1 I referenced a few On30 door layouts I used for ideas on this HOn30 layout. Here is another similar On30 layout:
