I worked on a variety of things this weekend.

I added some extra length to Meadows Yard here. I'm now also thinking about some changes in the "pit" area too.

I also worked on trying to figure out buildings for Ellis Coffee.

After looking at a few on-hand options I decided to go with a some of cut down and extended DPM buildings.

My plan is to make that main structure square using two sets of "fronts" as sides and then build it out with other parts.
It won't be exact, but it's close enough for me.

Lastly it was engine time. I did some research on these guys and found a few things to spruce them up with. Mainly radio antennas and some additional decals. It's really tempting to renumber the one on the right and add some CR stencils to it.

Thanks for the comments.  The chalk marks based on prototype photos and are simply done with a sharp white Prismacolor pencil on top of the matte finish.

Still making slow progress on a deck truss bridge.  Got all the diagonal braces installed and working on installing the NBWs (only about 30 more to go).  I think I need a better set of tweezers, because I REALLY hate NBWs right now.  Next up, the end supports and then the stringers.

@Ed Kapuscinski
I’d see if you could locate one of the old Heljan Movie theater kits.
You’d only need to address the lower front wall where the ticket window is but you could use some sidewall to do that.
I think it’s a much closer match.

Ed, as a kid I remember smelling Ellis coffee cooking the beans, Frankford Chocolate making chocolate and Rohm & Haas Chemicals making Methyl Ethyl Bad Stuff. What a cacophony of olfactory confusion! Also, what are you referring to when you call the yard "Meadows Yard"?

Haha, when they did family day at Rohm & Haas they had a booth that was something like "the smells of Bridesburg". I'll never forget that!

Meadows Yard: according to the Conrail ZTS Maps the old TrucTrain yard at Aramingo & Church St was called Meadows. Why? I do not know, but here it is. I figure since my track layout is somewhat similar I might as well just go with the name.

I ran my power lines at Afton Canyon. Now I need to plant some vegetation.

Great work. So, so jealous. This is the exact scene I'm struggling with at the moment, for a number of reasons. Set aside back when new, I cannot seem to find my BLMA bridges. They've got to be around here... somewhere...  :(

What did you use for the girder bridge? ME? How about the piers? I could fabricate/3D print my own, but if you used something off the shelf it would save time.

I just finished weathering a 1990’s vintage 3-bay open hopper with some pan pastels and added a coal load made from 3/4” black automotive foam that I salvaged from the trash after helping my son-in-law install one of those pickup truck bed covers.

This weatherstripping appears to be same stuff.  Could make a lot of coal loads quickly for small Dollars.  https://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-King-E-O-3-4-in-x-7-16-in-x-10-ft-Black-High-Density-Rubber-Foam-Weatherstrip-Tape-R734H/100047977

I have been using the black foam for several years now. Best part is I can get it for free from a customer who's dumpster is usually full of the stuff. They cut various shapes out of full sheets and toss the rest.

Ed, I think everything on the east side of Aramingo Ave. was considered the "Meadows" all the way down to the electric plant next to the Del Air line. Use to go watch the drag races on Delaware Ave. "down the meadows". My cousin and I used to go over to Wheatsheaf Lane and watch the TrucTrain flat cars get pushed off the Trenton Ave. Hi-line, down a sharply curved track that dropped down from the Trenton Line to cross over Aramingo at the slaughter house and then an equally sharp curve the other way to get into the TrucTrain yard. The curves at both ends were so severe that one could actually stand inside the rail when the center of the car passed by, ( I know, I tried it, ranks up there with one of the dumbest things I ever did, but, hey, I was about 12). Used to watch the truck drivers back down the string of cars to pull their trailers. Excelsior Trucking was on the doors of all the tractors. They drove the trailers up to Wheatsheaf and Buckius to the Excelsior Trucking terminal, about 2 or 3 blocks away, and unload them there and return them to the TrucTrain Yard. Excelsior Truckings building had, I think, 4 covered platforms with tracks in between. The Frankford Junction switchers used to bring cars over from the yard passed the American Felt plant. That caught fire several times a year, due to all the lint floating around. There was a small yard across the street from Excelsior that wasn't part of the Frankford Jct. yard tracks. That may have been where they put the empties they pulled from Excelsior when switching out loads and empties. There was a lumber dealer down on Aramingo, next to the Del Air track, that used to get boxcars of lumber from The Great Northern. Loved seeing the Big Sky blue boxcars with the goat on the side. That was a great place to watch rail traffic all day long. Frankford Jct., the NEC, the Del Air Branch, the Trenton Hi-line, the Excelsior Co., the TrucTrain yard, Baldwin and Alco switchers (they had EMD's too, but the other 2 makers were better). They had a foot bridge that spanned the entire width of the yard and crossed over the NEC. Saw the E44's when they were brand new and actually looked green, waiting at the Junction, off the "O" track, waiting for clearance on the Del Air branch, taking the transfer train from South Philly yard over to Pavonia in Camden.  Great memories

Oh man, that's awesome.

I grew up right off Church St in the mid 80s. I never saw the TrucTrain stuff, but I vividly remember Conrail serving the Allied Chemical plant out of there. In fact, you used to be able to look up my street and see the headlights of the switchers in the plant.

I'm actually planning some of that Church St stuff on future modules. I realized that with all of those steel plate loads I recently did I need somewhere for them to go so I'll be doing a Morris Wheeler (the steel dealer at Church and Aramingo) that used to have tracks into the building.

And now, the more I think about it, the more I think I need to do that lumber yard too.

Thanks for the info about "The Meadows". I had no idea!

For me, the strongest train watching memories there were my dad coming home from work and then taking me to go see whatever was stretched out across the Delair bridge waiting to get onto the NEC or vice versa. That's where I first got to see the inside of a cab.

I remember that foot bridge too. I also remember it being sketchy even back then.

Who's facility was that right there along Wheatsheaf Ln? I remember that catching fire back and it being a HUGE conflagration (that you could see all the way from our house).

Ed, there was a knitting mill on the west side of the NEC at Frankford & Buckius or Butler that was torched and went for a few alarms. I was a fireman, but I worked in West Philly and didn't make the job. American felt caught fire many times, it was right in the yard, 2100 Wheatsheaf. I have several photos of Morris-Wheeler just before it was demo'd, especially the roll up door on Church St. that was about 25 or 30 ft. wide to let long cars in at an angle. Haven't figured out how to put photos on here yet.

Oh *****!

I was trying to find photos of Morris Wheeler.
