I’m sure you didn’t mean literally throw the 500 throttle away, because (1) you could sell it and recoup a significant chunk of money, or (2) you may quickly find that it’s nice having a second throttle around for additional operators on your layout.

Yes, what @davefoxx said.   BTW Yankeedabbler has these throttles up for sale at $160 and he has a 4th July 5% discount too.
I like the look of this throttle but it won’t work with my NCE system.

No, I definitely wouldn't throw it away. Having a second one around might be nice. Though for the same amount of dollars I would skip the EVO and build around the 240 which already has the USB interface, etc.

My point was that from my view as a new person to the hobby, getting into digitrax with a throttle that has an interface as nice as the NCE throttle went from not possible to overly expensive.  From this seat I think digitrax just penalized new customers / modelers interested in their product.

Thats all.

I agree completely.  Much to the DVM A$$hats dismay when I started building my last layout I went NCE because I didn't want a '60s era over buttoned UI that I could never remember the placement of.  So every time I went to @seusscaboose I had to hope his wifi was up to snuff (Or that ED brought the right components) so I could run on the WIThrottle app on my phone.  Interestingly since the MRC prodigy was essentially the same UI I could at @wm3798 with no issues because my fingers mostly knew where to go (TWSS).

This throttle in a starter set would be a game changer for Digitrax.  But I'm not switching systems for it.

I agree. I might just eat the the cost and 'build' a starter system around the 240 and 602, as that should likely be a one time sunk cost for me that should meet all of my needs for quite a number of years.  It just annoying to have to consider such. My guess is that they didn't want to come up with a plan for the current EVO systems in the pipeline if they released a new starter set.  Burying your head in the sand though is not a valid business strategy, especially when it makes your competitor even more financially attractive for people entering the market where that first purchase builds brand loyalty. I am also not in a rush, I can wait a bit and see what they do.

Thats why I was confused.  Ive only heard it referred to as DMV not DVM. Lived here all my life and DVM is a new one to me. Maybe our Virginia brethren got tired of being last :-D

DelMarVa?  That would be DMV, not DVM, rigth?  Probably just a typo.
But still, when I (as an unitiated New Englander) seen someone here (with a many TRW members being from that area) mentioned DMV, I was also confused. Around my part of the country, DMV was Division of Motor Vehicles.

The "DMV" is more of a DC area moniker covering the District, Maryland, and Virginia.  I've lived on Delmarva for almost 30 years, and I've never heard of our locality described as anything but Delmarva.  @Philip H more than likely committed a typo.  You see, in an effort to cling to his rapidly fading youth, he refuses to wear his readers while thumb typing on his flip phone.

I was born and DC and grew up around it - not familiar with that. :D

DMV is Dept of Motor Vehicles in Virginia, in Maryland its MVA (Motor Vehicle Administration).

Delmarva, well yeah its that peninsula!

With my heritage being directly from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, although I live in Delaware now, I understand it exactly how Lee explained it.

@wm3798 is correct - I can't type effectively while holding a coffee cup and fending off a 6 year old.

Precisely.  It's not about the locals.  It's the "inside the beltway" crowd using cool guy talk.
