Perhaps less of a micro challenge, but a useful opportunity for the O.P.E.N sign would be a slightly larger radio station sign up on the backdrop.I had ideas of including this on my WM layout, as high on the hill overlooking Cumberland is the glowing marquee of WTBO, which operates on a similar circuit (the letters appear sequentially, then flash off then on together.)The closest I got was assembling the letters, unlit, on the backdrop of my Cumberland module. (It's there by the hand-drawn radio tower). If there's no room on the backdrop, you could incorporate the effect into a roadside billboard sign, but I'm sure you'd have a challenge shoe-horning another project in.Lee
cigarette or cigar burning on a sidewalk
Child flying a kite by the meadow (kite moving and rotating with the "wind")
Person jacking up and lowering a car on a roadside
Shopkeeper flipping the Closed/Open sign.
Someone fishing in the river casting their line - or at least moving their rod as if they are casting with it.

I made one of those years ago, for friend's layout. The fishing rod was bade from a thin brass rod, and the fishing line went through a hole in "water", and attached to an arm of a small 12V relay under the layout. Then there was a timer circuit which occasionally energized the relay for a split second. The movement was very small and subtle, but noticeable. Unfortunately that layout was dismantled earlier this year.
