Note that this set does not include the full red-and-blue- window-band stripes, just the blue stripe and narrow white stripe that separates red and blue.  I've no idea why.
However, you can get the full stripes from a phase ii set, like this one: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MD&Product_Code=60-423&Category_Code=AMTK

Thanks! I saw the first set without the red stripes while I was searching. Thought that was odd, too!

I may just create my own and have them printed on decal sheets. This is what I have come up and think that these should probably work.

Thanks,
Bart

I did two pullman cars with those Microscale Phase 1 sets.....wow, that's a tough application!  I thought ATSF yellow pinstripes over an SD45-2 was a challenge to get straight.

I'm still not sure if it's better to paint the color around the windows and put on the individual white stripes, or decal all the colors as a single strip and try to accurately cut out the windows after application.   No matter how you look at it, it's not one of the easier things to do.  P painted the color, put on the stripes full length including over the window holes, and then cut them after it dried.

I've used the Microscale phase iii sets several times - that involved putting one decal over all the windows, letting it dry, then cutting out the windows.   It was easier than it sounds, using a new #11 blade.

On some Bachmann Amfleet cars I actually painted the entire window band black, applied the decal (happened to be Phase IV, but the process is the same for other phases), then cut out the decal over windows and ended up with nice neat black window frames.

<edit> - adding pictures </edit>
Here's the car with the black window band.

Here's the finished car:

"just the blue stripe and narrow white stripe that separates red and blue."

A step backwards.  Walthers had the complete stripes almost as soon as Amtrak released the paint scheme.  Their only problem was that, with the small size of their decal sheets, one had to splice the decals in the middle of the car.

Look what I found hiding in one of my closets! I had some old Walther's Amtrak Phase I decals I had bought way back in the 1970's. Only 70 cents from my local hobby shop

This should be enough to finish the car I am working on. I cut off a small section of stripe just to make sure that they were still good. It slid off just fine!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

By modern standards, the Walthers decals have very thick film, which is harder to hide after application.  But, on the other hand, they're almost indestructible.  I have 10 year old Microscale sets that are already dried out, and fall apart when wet.  Then there are the 40+ year old Walthers, stored in the same box, that are as good as new.  The Microscale are clearly better, as far as print quality and prototype accuracy, but the Walthers keep longer, and included road names Microscale will probably never do, mostly roads that are long gone.
