As I seemed to have limited success in my ability to post a photo re; the Z Scale ZeNkeville II layout, I figured I may as well start showcasing some of our N Scale layouts.

The photo shows Union Pacific Big Boy 4006 on a coal drag on Byers Junction, our main N Scale layout.

If a real Big Boy ever came to Australia, the country would probably sink due to the weight of the loco.

Another try thanks to Peteski.

First,
Whoa!  rray, a great rendition of the Lester depot!  (You're right, in N, there was a laser kit for us, which I built, but for Z, it's strictly DIY, and you did a great job Robert!)
And Chris Broughton's interior (the O scale shop) detailing is awesome.  Can you provide a short list of who makes some of those detail castings, and do they do them in N?

As for the logs... believe it or not, they are wisteria bush.  There is one growing in our yard, and when I was lamenting that small branches don't really look at all like the bark of real trees, my daughter said, "I know where there's something just like what you want" (or words to that effect), so she gets the credit for this (and even in the magazine article, heh heh).

Here's a photo of the raw material, and the logs:

Max, how long you bake them for at 350F?

Was hoping to have more layout progress, but so far I'm chained to the oars with pre-holiday deadlines.  But I'm working on some cool projects!

... and apart from the barn, which has an enormous clear span loft, they all have basements!  No wonder I waste so much time day dreaming!!

Obviously it's Stan & Ollie's workshop.  :D

Modeling for this weekend is still TBD, but yesterday was spent reconning Coal Country.

If this ramp looks familiar it's because it was in the Rich Frey Good Spring photos: http://conrailphotos.thecrhs.org/Images/CR-9627-drops-downgrade-after-spotting-some-empties-at-Good-Spring-PA-on-May-12-1988

That truck dump is now out of use and isn't ACTUALLY making it onto the layout, but it WAS really cool to see.

This truck dump IS going to make it though. It's a multi-purpose facility that loads both regular hoppers and covered hoppers with powdered coal.

Remember this scene. It's going to be at the west end of Cressona Yard because, well, it's at the west end of Cressona Yard is exactly what I was envisioning for the space.

Speaking of Cressona Yard. Here's an R&N Fightin Fifty that still needs to go through the engine house to be prepped for service sitting on a storage track in the yard.

We ended the day at Blaschak Coal which is ALSO going to feature on the layout as well. I got some good detail shots of the truck dump here but this one just looks cool.

I think 'Weekend Update' is my favorite part of The Railwire. This week is a really good one; five pages by Sunday morning with lots of good stuff. Max's log cars are, well, perfect. How did you render the turnbuckles? And the Z scale depot is outstanding. So is the workshop. And I'm not surprised that some wizard could produce N scale turkeys, but I don't understand how you painted them. Me, I'm ballasting track...

I made more progress on the folding staging shelf this weekend.  The track is installed and wiring has begun.  I'll add Masonite sides and ends to keep freight cars from going to the floor:

Answering questions:

I bake the wisteria "logs" for about 20 minutes.

And the turnbuckles on the log cars are HO scale brass Grandt Line castings from my parts bin, with phosphor bronze wire soldered
into each end.  Yes, they are oversized for N, but I decided I liked how they looked anyway.

Thanks, @mmagliaro ! It's a very short list. All of the hand tools, radiators, brake cylinders, pedestal grinder, barrels, acetylene tanks, etc. are from Wiseman Model Services on eBay. The work benches were some lucky eBay finds - don't know who makes them. "Stan & Ollie" are Artista figures - I can't unsee that, now! Unfortunately, they don't offer these in N. Heck, they're pretty darn small for O!

A couple of stand-in cars until I get the real ones from Lowell Smith:  buffet/lounge Temple and diner Sam Houston (I used the car number which was 1100 on this since the nameplate was too small for the car name).  These are Kato super chief cars repainted and decaled (Circus City Graphics).  They look good with Lowell's coaches and sleepers.  I'm using modelflex 16-37 (Southern Pacific Scarlet Red); it matches the factory red that Lowell is using pretty closely.

Not the actual Paw Paw station, but a pretty good model of an actual B&O station (Sykesville on the Old Main Line) .

The roof is,still loose until I get the lighting installed.
