Personally I would not have "Narrow Gauge Railway" in your logo at all.
No prototype RR's needed to say that they were standard or narrow gauge.
Just make the mountain a little bigger, add some more caricature to it like shading and leave it at that.
It would be cleaner Logo IMO.
Rod.

I agree Rod,  I really wanted something similar to Pike's Peak Route but more specific to my layout.  I couldn't think of anything else so I was using those words as place holders.  I will try it without lettering and see what I think.

I agree on ditching the "narrow gauge," but it's not entirely true that real railroads didn't ever specify their gauge.

The classic example is the Nevada County Narrow Gauge RR, but there are others.  One I remember from my Lancaster, PA roots is that the PRR Quarryville Branch was once called the Lancaster and Reading Narrow Gauge Railroad even though it was built to standard gauge!

EDIT:  Also please pay close attention to fonts.  I'm a bit of a stickler for fonts; many model railroaders end up using modern fonts that didn't exist back in the day.  Moreover, it was pretty unusual to see lowercase letters used in railroad heralds.  Sure, it happened and I can rattle off a few, but it was much more common for all caps.  You often saw the first letters in a larger size but the rest of the words still also in caps.  Using sentence case is often a realism killer on signs and railroad logos supposedly representing pre-1950 eras.

I use https://www.1001fonts.com/ to retrieve my historical fonts for use on my layouts.

The Colorado Midland origins of the logo are pretty unambiguous...so rather than "Narrow Gauge Railroad" where the CMRy had "Pikes Peak Route," maybe consider some other slogan?  If there's a mountain pass somewhere on your railroad or canyon or something with a name, that's great, because it'll help reinforce geography.  Like "Mosquito Pass Route" or "Arkansas Valley Route" or something similar.  The Colorado Midland got very lucky because the words Pikes, Peak, and Route are similar in length.

Thanks for all the suggestions gentlemen.  I tried it without anything in the triangle and it seemed empty to me.  I went with a larger font similar to what DKS did with his version and I figured out how to add a photo so I now have something that I'm satisfied with.  I may eventually change "Hell Gate Pass"  to something else if I can find something more relevant to the layout as it progresses.

Dennis,

I'm not sure the photo in the center is the way to go.  I'd use something that was hand painted to better fit the era.  I think using the two different size fonts for the railroad name gives the logo an unbalanced look, but these are just my opinions and you know what they say about opinions  ;)

Thanks Scott,
I don't particularly like the two different sized fonts either, but I liked it better than the smaller font all around.  Ultimately It will only really ever be seen on my Youtube channel where it's small enough I don't think it will really matter much.  Good Call on the Mountain.  I replaced it with the cartoon/painted rendition of Hell Gate from an advertisement.

Finally got finished with Campbell Scale Models Stock Yard #400.  Took me Way longer than I wanted it to.  I'm now working on some more trees to finish up the rest of the module.
I've named it Sperry Farms in honor of my Grandfather Earl Sperry.... Horse & Cattle Rancher.

Dennis,

It looks great.  I really enjoyed watching your series on it.

I have received some devastating news.  The facility where I work is closing down, allegedly in 90 days or less.  Luckily I can transfer to another facility and keep my retirement, unfortunately that means at least an hour drive one way to work.  I have about 880 days or less before I can retire with full benefits.  I expect this will impact the layout significantly but things are just so sketchy right now and I don't really know how it will all pan out.

In the mean time I plan on redoubling my efforts to complete the Time Saver module I have been working on as soon as I can.

Sorry to hear that. But good that you have a lifeboat available that will allow you to get vested in your retirement plan. I tolerated a commute of 22 miles one way for a couple of years which doesn’t sound bad except the traffic made it be 2-1/2 to 3 total hours on the road each day which sucked. But you do what you need to do until you can do something else.

Dennis,

Your work is outstanding as usual.  Sorry to hear about the job but it's only for a few years.  As we used to say on submarines, "I could stand on my head in bucket of sh*t, snorkeling through a straw without a head valve in a state 7 sea for 880 days!"
