Dennis - I really like the structures you are building.  I'm not familiar with any of these kits as I mostly scratch build, but they are nice.

My guess on Harveys Hardware is - No Heat source, I don't see a chimney or a smoke jack anywhere.

I will give you three guesses as to what bone headed mistake I made on Harvey's Hardware.  It was a case of staying up too late and pushing too hard to get things done.

I've stared at it for over 15 minutes but cannot find anything that seems out of order.
hmmmmmm. I am stumped.
Very nice work!

Are the window frames are upside down or the crown molding is on the bottom :?

The only issue I could see is that the bottom of the front window doesn't line up with the side windows like on the other structures.

DING DING DING DING we have a winner!!!!

Yes, I installed every window upside down.!  I have excuses...  my dog ate the instructions.  When I finally got them back and did my best to assemble them in a readable maner, I obviously got the window frame page upside down.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  :P

I Haven't decided on a heat source yet.  I'm thinking of getting something that protrudes from a wall instead of out the top.
Good Catch though.

The only way I caught that was I am currently working on a plan for building the CM Granite Depot and I am cutting the top trim off the Grandt Line windows to match the ones in the prototype photo.
I looked at those pics over and over and it all looked great.  If you woud not of mentioned something wrong for us to challenge our eyes they would never be noticed.
Its still a great looking building !

For me it was one of those things that once I noticed it, I couldn't un-see it.  Super bummed.  Oh well, as I move forward with my modeling, looking more closely at window moldings will be something I won't take lightly.

Speaking of the CM.  I am only aware of one picture of the Depot in Leadville.  In your study of the railroad have you come upon any pics of the Depot at Leadville?  I have a grand illusion of maybe scratch building something that would come close to it.

Dennis- I know of only two Leadville Depot photos from back in the day, the famous trackside Buckwalter photo and then one showing the back of the depot around 1918.
Both of these are in the Morris Cafky book "Colorado Midland"

If you dont have that book - I reccommend getting one. Be paitent as they turn up on ebay quite affordable. I purchased a second to have on the modeler bench for $30.00 several mnths ago.

I almost purchased it this weekend, but I thought I might be patient and get a better deal eventually.  I have "Sliver Rails" and "Basalt"  So Cafky's book is eventually a must buy.

Yes, I think these are the only photos I've seen, I was hoping there was a trove of pictures unknown to me!

Thanks for helping out!

Dennis - how is the book "Silver Rails", does it have a lot of historical pictures ?  Im really on the hunt for pictures of the D&RG operations at Leadville.

A few more books on the CM to keep on the lookout for -

The Midland Route : A Colorado Midland Guide and Data Book  by Mel McFarland  (My most Favorite of all my CM Books)

Colorado Midland Railway , Daylight Through the Divide  by Dan Abbott  (Great coverage of the Big Storm of 1899)

Roaring Fork Valley  An Illustrated Chronicle  by Len Shoemaker  (must have for any CM fan)

And if you are intersted - May 1989 Model Railroader has scale plans for the C&S Leadville Station.

Silver Rails (The Railroads of Leadville, Colorado) is a great book by Christopher James.  It details D&RG, DSP&P, CM, CS, and others railroads in and around Leadville.  It's full of maps, track configurations and plenty of beautiful photos.  I'm not sure But I think there is a pic of some kind on every page.  If you are modeling Leadville I would put it high on your list of books to get.

I'm still in a state of flux as to when & what I'm going to model.  It's been a few years since I've read the book and I probably need to revisit it to help me make  up my mind.

These two are critical references for any CMRy fan or modeler.

Are there certain things to consider before purchasing, like a number of maps that should be included with the books?  I lucked out when I got my Basalt book and was surprised by several great maps that I wasn't expecting.

Dennis- These books come with maps (or when they were published)

The Midland Route : A Colorado Midland Guide and Data Book  by Mel McFarland

Colorado Midland by Morris Cafky

And both also have scale dimensions of locomotives and rolling stock.

Thank you for the info on Silver Rails, I will be adding that to my library very soon.
