I fiddled around with some 1:1 marker lights tonight.

Four new freight cars joined the fleet today, including a second BCR all-door car and three more CN and NAHX cylindrical hoppers for lime service.  These are all ready-to-run cars modified with low profile metal wheels, body mount couplers and appropriate weathering:

My three new boxcar projects are now painted.  The ex-BAR cars and ex-SOO cars are ready for decals; the 50' cars did not take paint well and the doors have yet to print satisfactorily:

Finally got my little AAR 40' into a point of assembly that could be considered satisfactory. (pesky plastic grabs breaking with the slightest force) And gave it its first weathering pass. Noticed that Krylon Dull coat completely nullifies pan pastels so I need to think about how I'm going to go about the dust layer.

Also the pic is a great reminder on how I should think about getting either a good camera or a phone that has a good camera.

If the car isn't going to be handled much I'd forget the dull coat finish and just ride with the pastels.

First stage of decal application completed on the RS-3s.   Lots of very fiddly line work to do next.  Also did some weathering of the handrails and pilots on 565 which immediately reduced the over-scale appearance nicely, so that effect will be applied to 571 too.

The different road number fonts is a nice prototype variation based on prototype photos.  Microscale fortunately provides a selection of different fonts on their decal sheet matching these variations.

Excellent progress. Looking really sharp.

Some cosmetic progress today...

First I scabbed 2" to the left end so I could turn the lights on without derailing a train...

Then I installed a work light under the layout to shed some light on the numerous projects that remain to be done...

And started working on finishing the outer edge with some fascia.  There's still some sanding, painting and trimming to do, but it definitely looks less like the pile of foam that was Retro 1.0.

Kato? Intermountain?... or EMD! Wow does that bring back memories of chasing a brace of these up US99 south of Fresno. Great job!

I'm in yet another modeling slump. :( On the bright side I hung out in a bar in Altoona with these guys and enjoyed the food from CP Vito's. I also may have spent too much money on some CR goodies at the hobby shop in Altoona as well. But it was a good 3 day trip with a great group of friends.

in an attempt to finish some projects I’ve painted a few things. 4 locomotives and 3 boxcars, all B&M. Kato RS2 for BM 1500, Skytop/Atlas RS3 for BM 1514, Arnold SW1 for BM 1119, and a Key S3 for BM 1184. The boxcars are all Roundhouse 50’ PS1s.

I also took this picture yesterday with may prove to be irresistible layout inspiration...

Operated at @mu26aeh 's layout today. A little Front End Friday on a Saturday. CSX power on the main, my Rock power on the first yard track, and @Ed Kapuscinski 's CR buttheads.

(Attachment Link)

A fun day was had by all.  Now I have some more work to do to fix some power issues on sections of track, that by the way, never once reared their heads during the 2 day Mainline event 3 weeks ago.

@Bendtracker1 , you should like this photo.
