Well if you don't have 24 hours in your future maybe, but good things take time...
a bit like having to stare past over-long sig files.. I have better reading to take care of....

How does a 2-part putty come in a single tube? (Or is there another thing in the package that isn't visible?)

 That tube is a 1 part putty . Usually red , squeeze out a bit and use a flexable putty knife to spread it . It's usually used to fill minor scratches in auto bodywork .  It works like Squadron putty in that something in it evaporates to harden it .

Well, what I need is a putty that lets me futz with it for as long as I need, then obeys the verbal command "Set now!" so that I can get on with the next step.  Otherwise, I need to know what I am doing before I start, and that need doesn't work so well with my innovative streak.
