Southern Pacific Decals

Bit of a random question... but I’m looking for a set of SP decals to fit within a specific space. I’m painting some Kato sleepers for a friend in the Sunset Limited scheme, foobs, and he would like Southern Pacific on the panel above the windows. The lettering that comes with the Sunset Limited MicroScale set is too long and spills into the corrugated portion of the car.

The panel measures 1.95” long by 0.07” tall. He is willing to use nearly any lettering that fits within that space. If someone has got a stash of SP decals laying around, can you measure the lettering?

We’ve also tried looking for Z scale decals but have come up empty.

Last resort would be to get a few lines custom printed.

Thanks, Doug

Please LMK if you go that way, I'm thinking of doing something for SD70Ace UP 1996, but I haven't found anything available.

I'll check my sp stash as I've got stuff for lark, daylight and the like maybe I'll have something. I'll see Sunday as I don't have to work.

Micro scale 60-34 sunbeam, daylight, San Joaquin And Southern Pacific lines. Measurement is 1 7/16 by  1/16  silver lettering
Microscale 60-241 heavyweights gold lettering size is 1 11/16 by just under 1/16” and other size is 1 7/8 by just under 1/16”.
Measuring with small ruler and bifocals hope this helps or points you into right direction.
Sunset is silver with red strip on car correct? I will look to see mine and see what lettering is on them.

Thanks Jim, it sounds like the 60-34 set will work perfectly.

Yes, Sunset is silver with the red stripe. I’ve got set 60-204 and the lettering fits height wise, but is over 2 inches long.

I appreciate you measuring those for me.

Hey Ed, sounds like Jim may have found a good set for me to use. I’ve got some random SP stuff you are welcome to if you’d like to check them out. I’m curious what you are up too...

I’ll check my set tomorrow I have vin Cor and the centrella lounge cafe dinner set to go with them as the lettering may be different than the Microscale Decals. I’ll see if I can find my good glasses and ruler and take some accurate measurements. Does Microsoft give dimensions on their website I wonder? And one set had Southern Pacific lines but you can cut off the lines portion. I think it’s the silver letter set n

Thanks Doug.  I've got a Kato UP SD70Ace that I thought would make an interesting project to deck out and repaint as the 1996 SP Heritage scheme.  I haven't found any commercial decals tho (probably a UP licensing thing)  so I'd probably have to go custom.

Ah, I was wondering if you meant exactly that or had some kind of fantasy in mind. I did an Ace in Black Widow earlier this year for a customer down in Texas to go with his 1996.

I do believe you are going to have to go the custom route on decals, that's probably too much to try to cobble together from sets, especially when you start getting into the curved stripes. I'd recommend you reach out to Matt at Circus City Decals, he's done some custom work for me and I've also used a number of his "commercial" sets to do work for others.
