I finished this a few weeks ago.

The photos don't really show the fade of the red.... It's now a dark chalky salmon. This is how I remember seeing Super Fleet run though engines in the late 90's.

FVM really did everything right on this model and it's one of my favorites.

PS... I wish FVM made their PC board available as a part. It fits some Kato engines and would make a solder-free install of any 6 pin decoder (such as Loksound, Lokpilot and Zimo decoders).
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

My interlocking tower needed a reason to exist. I found an old Atlas 90° crossing that I have had forever and a day, and I decided that it needed to be on my layout. I simply measured the distance from the edge of the layout, cut the rails with a Dremel, using a 420 cutting wheel (perfect for the day), poured some water onto the area of the track work and used a brand new razor to work my way down.

Looking through my scrap track box, I came across a piece of Atlas 9 3/4″ radius track and a inch long straight…and it fit perfectly up against the backdrop. I then remembered my old Arnold ALCO S2 that I saved for, stripped down, and painted it into Southern Pacific tiger stripes as a kid, never to really run it…and now it has cracked gears…..but it fits perfectly with a Micro Trains Line 33′ hopper!

Up next, a piece of tangent track, more street repairs on Washington Blvd, and a street crossing made out of some old Micro Engineering wood ties…if I remember where I put them.

Just FYI... Northwest Shortline still has replacement wheelsets for the Arnold S2 which also includes the axle gear. They may even still have the replacement gear in stock, but you better act fast since he’s closing down.

I've continued my affront to good modeling as I continued work on these first-gen kits.

Wow David, that brings back memories.   I had one of those Pola stone enginehouses back about 1973-4.  The dimension of that building made the footprint for the modern replacement one that I scratchbuilt from strathmore, and the modified Rix replacement for that still has the 'foundation/floor' of the original Pola one buried deep inside layers of styrene built up to look like concrete.

With all the retro construction being done, I figured I'd post it here since it gets looked at a lot but there is a gentleman getting out of hobby selling a lot of his stuff on FB sale groups.  Lot of Pola, AHM, Kirbi and LifeLike building kits.  @wm3798 and @David K. Smith amongst others , not sure if you're in need of something or have access to FB, but thought I'd mention it

Thanks, I'm not a Facebook person (putting it politely), and I'm good with kits and stuff for now, but @wm3798 might be interested.

Not exactly modeling, but I built a critter gate🙀
I like to keep the trainroom door open when I'm there, so I can hear my wife and keep the air circulating, so I built this low panel gate. The cats could jump over it easily, but they don't as long as I'm in there....didn't know they could read.
The secondary function is to help keep the guys out of the trainroom and in the lounge area, unless they have a train to run or a job to do, to keep the isles open and the unrelated chatter out of the train room. We'll see if it works on humans as well as the cats :D
Oh, the Trainmen sign is a replica of one that's still in the San Bernardino Depot.

Everyone doing these 'Retro' projects made me clear off and take a new look at this old thing I was given a few years ago.  It's not the type of layout that satisfied my interest, but the track runs pretty smooth, so maybe I'll fix it up and do some kind of raffle give away.

First things first, get rid of that 'mountain for the sake of a tunnel' and replace it with something that actually warrants some type of tunnel.

Great Stuff'd and carved.

And base coated.

So far I'm just winging it, so if any of you 'retro' guys have any ideas or suggestions.  :D

Looks good so far. "Winging it" is sort of the whole idea. That'll make a great raffle prize for sure.

This is GREAT, Bryan!  There is so much good about this model.  I especially like the extra care you took to run
the piping through hold-downs, eyelets and other supporting brackets on the roof.

Other than the headlights which will be installed after painting, construction of the EP-3 body is complete almost complete.  :|  I nearly forgot about the corner marker lamps.   So painting is on hold until they are fabricated.  :(
