Photo Fails

Somehow after editing many times I got the first photo to turn right-side up.  Same number of edit tries on photo 2 and about a dozen others with NO success.  These two photos were taken moments apart with iPhone orientation unchanged.

I am trying to post to Weekend Update for the first time in months and I am frustrated
Best regards,

Roger

That does seem like a pain Roger.  Do both photos show up right side up on your iPhone?  The problem with smart phones is that "up" depends on the way you are holding the phone.  :|  Are you posting directly from iPhone and editing after uploading to the forum, or are you editing on a home computer (Windows PC or an Apple Mac)?

BTW, this is not really an N or Z scale problem.  :)

Thanks, Peteski.  They all are right-side up on the phone.  And somehow I flipped that first photo.

You are correct about posting in wrong forum section.  I was just frustrated and figured it would get the most exposure.  Mods, please move to wherever you feel it would be appropriate.
Best regards,

Roger

I put all my phone pics onto my computer for cropping and resizing. And put them online from there.

Roger, when you are taking all those photos, do you always hold the phone in the same exact orientation (as far as it's physical orientation goes)?

And, like Chris said, if you are uploading those photos directly from your phone to the Railwire, and then manipulate them here, that can become problematic.  To make long story short, this is a known issue with the way the smart phones tag the photo's orientations vs. the rest of the world.

I only really run into issues when I’m taking a picture from above and the phone is flattish. As far as uploading, I upload pictures to imgur and their software usually gets the orientation correct. I host the images there because I like to share them on several different places, and I don’t think that the image hosting on here was intended to be used that way.

Photo hosting here was enabled because of the spectacular fail of Photobucket. I have been burned by it, and by couple of other free hosting sites.  Personally I think it is a great idea to have forum photos hosted on the forum. That way they will be around for as long as the forum is running.  As far as uploading them goes, there are multiple methods. Some might not be the most intuitive, but I never had any problems.  I find myself using the bulk uploader function, even for single photos. It is easy - just drag-n-drop.  Of course I don't use a smart phone.  :|  Whether the forum was intended to host photos or not, it seems to work well for most of  the users here.  The photos here can also be neatly organized.

The building is right side up, but the watermark ain't.

Nice work on that building.  I saw your description in the "update".

I put all my phone pics onto my computer for cropping and resizing. And put them online from there.

This is what I used to do with my Samsung Galaxy S5.  This was because the photos taken at the same time would sometimes be upside down.  Later in the phone's life, most of the photos were upside down no matter what orientation I shot them at...even vertical.  Also, my screen was stuck in one orientation.

I uploaded them to my computer, then used the standard gallery in Windows 10...highlighting just the thumbnails that were upside down pressing "Ctrl" (control) and , then pressing the right mouse button for the pop-up menu.  I scrolled down and chose either "rotate right" or "rotate left" and then all of the highlighted photos orient correctly.

Now, with my Google Pixel 2 XL phone, my photos are automatically uploaded to my Google Photos account, and I don't have orientation problems, but the screen orientation on my phone is operating correctly, as opposed to my old Samsung.

Soooo...if you're having big problems with orienting your photos here, upload them into your computer first, then correct their orientation.  That should take care of your problem.

Cheerio!
