The bridge in 2007:

Thanks, Chris. That settles it. The guywires are belt-and-suspenders... well, suspenders, at least  :D   ...to keep the big square from toppling over. How the installation got past state traffic engineers absolutely boggles my (retired traffic systems engineer) mind. There must have been tremendous political pressure on the local (county or city) roads engineer to sign-off on the art project, who then was forced to tell the state folks to keep their nose out of it. Not that I've ever experienced anything like that... :|

Anyway, I thought it through last night and came to the "no structural value" conclusion, as the guying was too light.

By my eye I'm surprised there are no clearance signs either currently or back then. Maybe it could be >16' - less requires signs - but if so, barely. I see no "oops" marks on the bridge, however.

A little extra power for my steam powered fast mail and grand canyon.
This is an athearn 50' reefer modified to represent santa fes steel sheethed express reefers.
I think the drive is pretty well hidden. This should make easy work for my santa fe 4-8-4s and keep there trains at a prototypical length in regards to motos power.
This was a trial for my next endeavor. My new end mill shows up tomorrow. I might be trying my hand at drop in tender drives like those pesky @nstars brothers!

In David's shot you can see large but run of the mill turn buckles at the highest point of the stays . The flange that they are attached to looks un-substantial for any major tensioning of the stays . I'm with Dave on the blue artwork .

I’ve been working on a bell tower for my factory complex (from last year’s industrial challenge). I drew it up and printed it, only to then realise I’d forgotten the actual bell. That’s been fixed and printed, but then I broke the finial off the top.  So the third attempt is now running. I tried printing it a few different angles, this was the least successful, but it hasn’t broken yet so it’s the one that gets photographed.

That's awesome!

The final model better have a sound decoder/arduino that rings the bell every hour!  :D
(assuming that's what the proto bell does)

I'm in tear down mode on the CSX Hanover Subdivision.  Amazing how quickly things go when listening to Disturbed, Slipknot, Breaking Ben, Godsmack and the like.

Hmm

I was going to print clock faces with fixed hands, but now I’m wondering if the whole clock should work. Three cheap quartz watches could work out if they’re small enough. Either way ringing, the bell is an interesting idea.

Oh!  I wonder if E-paper displays would work!

Made some progress on the right of way of the retro layout this week.  Established the final track plan, got the outer loop corked, and roughed in enough wiring to run a couple of trains.

I'm going to sculp out some background cliffs from the foam panels against the walls.
Naturally, now that they have a proper habitat, the Old locomotives have entered a realm of existential crisis.  The valve gear on my Bachmann 060 is binding, and the 040 shifter is making hellish noises.

So, to prepare for foam scenery and engine work, today I built a foam engine as part of the, scenery for my stepdaughter's school musical...

I got to operate Saturday on Joe Desmond's Central Jersey Conrail in N Scale on Saturday. Here's some pics of the area I operated on.

I've followed Joe's work for quite some time. I would recommend checking out his Facebook Page and  YouTube channel.

Because neither Ken nor I thought to suggest it when we were there.

Is it a state road?  If it's only a city street, not a state-owned road, the state may not have had any say in it.

Even so, I agree that it's odd that they would put such a thing in the middle of a road that had no previous obstruction, when it serves no useful purpose.
