How were these used in service. Freight only, or did they have steam generators? I just obtained a set from MT.

The FTs were freight only. The B&O did buy some F3s that they had geared in 3 sets, some for mountain grade helper service, some for mainline freight, and some for passenger.

Awesome. Thank you for the confirmation. I bought a B&O caboose a few years back from FVM but never had an engine to put in front of it. So now I am set and it saves me a couple of bucks by not being tempted to buy passenger cars.

As a matter of curiosity, other than ATSF, what railroads did have or add steam generators to any of their FTs?

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.
