I've been working on a N-scale PRR X28 box car scratch-build over the last couple of weeks. Still lots more to do, but it's getting closer to completion.

So the F&CC went under in 1915 due to repeated flooding in Phantom Canyon.  It connected with two standard gauge railroads in Cripple Creek & Victor (the Midland Terminal and the Colorado Springs & Cripple Creek District Railway, a.k.a., the 'Short Line') and to the D&RGW Royal Gorge Route to the south, which by 1911 was also only standard gauge.  This would have ensured that by 1911, there was no chance of direct interchange with the RGS way out several hundred rail miles to the west.  That said, when the F&CC went under, the RGS purchased three of its 4-6-0s, including the famous and still extant #20, currently being restored to operation by the Strasburg RR for the Colorado Railroad Museum.  Could a gon have gone west with the 4-6-0s?  Maybe.  By my era, though, even if it was still in any shape to be used, it would have been repainted for the RGS.  The reality is that this didn't happen, but I'm going to use Rule #1 here.

The interchange question is answered both by the lack of physical connection and by the fact that this car was used in captive service between mines in the Cripple Creek and Victor mining district.  And the era gap of 25 years.  But hey, it looks really, really cool!

It was great meeting Rasputen at the N Scale Weekend in Altoona.  I bought a bunch of vehicle kits from him that will keep me busy for a while.  These are really excellent models.  I got started on them this weekend:

You must have very steady hands!     These are outstanding!!!!  And I know Rasputen makes good stuff so you are starting off on a good base.

So are you hinting that you will sell a copy of this book for $60? (plus S&H)

Remember, the whole thing took up 2 volumes, so it's not $60.  It is $120 for 2 books.

And no, I'm not really selling them. 

But... if you want a copy,  Shutterfly extended the discount until tomorrow night (Tuesday night) at midnight Pacific time.   Shutterfly does toss out discounts all the time.  It's one of those things that nobody in their right mind pays full price for.  But even for them, this is a pretty cheap deal.  I have never seen them offer a discount this deep.

I know you're just pulling my leg, but if you (or anybody) seriously want a set, PM me (before midnight Pacific time tomorrow).

Those of you who follow my layout blog (http://rickb773-prsl.blogspot.com/) know that after being bored and not being able to get my operating crew together in the summer, I tore three of the four ends off my layout and started rearranging sections with the hope of being able to create more staging.


The layout went from this:

Well I am finally starting to put things sort of back together. The right leg (Westville) was moved to the left middle. The previous middle (Woodbury) is now the right middle.  Nine track staging (for both ends) is planned to now occupy the vacated right wall.


10 layout legs have been shortened (8 more to go). Looks like I’ll need another sheet of plywood (yeah I’m old fashioned - and I’m not the one to have to move it when I kick the bucket anyway!), another eight 2x3s, four 1x3s, and another 10 electrofrogs to add to the 50 turnouts already on the layout. Whose idea was this anyway?

Dave V:  Thank you.  Maybe the F&CC car was bought by the RGS, then repainted as an historic item by a local group?  Or, it could have been bought by an on-line business, and "should" have private owner reporting marks?  I doubt that the RGS was too concerned about AAR interchange rules for lettering...

Been on a Trains slump for the last few months. Doing some things to my module here and there, and some minor work to a few locomotives. Been doing loco matinance prepping for train show season. nothing picture worthy though.

I have been working on one of my other hobbies though, Old arcade machines. Yesterday I picked up my 7th machine. It's an old Pac-man cocktail cab, that was converted to an Arkanoid. I got a screaming deal on it, Only paid $25. All it needed was some monitor adjustments and cleaning to get it working 100%. I'm still working on my Nintendo Dualsystem, Chasing bad chips, and such....

here is a picture of my "Arcade corner" of my living room. I got a few more machines I want, But I'm pretty much out of space....Might be time to build a shed. lol (Attachment Link)

I'm a big fan of Gyruss. Loved that game.
If I could own an arcade machine I think I would go for TMNT2 first. It's pretty nostalgic for me.
I'd also have to have a pinball table.
