Actually, I did. Ran an india ink wash over it all (twice over the white ones). It tends to pop back up when photographed--in person, it's not as bright as this.

I held my second trial op session this past Tuesday; this was the full meal deal with a third operator and the Dawson Creek Switcher.  I also put dispatcher's train sheet, MBS clearances and bulletin, train registers and fast clock into play.

Michael repeated his role as Chetwynd Yard operator, seen here dismantling Train No. 23 and building the Septimus Turn and Dawson Switcher:

Gary arrives in Chetwynd with Work Extra 810 from the ballast pit at Teko:

Upon arrival he contacts the dispatcher to cancel his clearance, and as dispatcher I mark my copy Cancelled in the clearance book:

Philippe departs Chetwynd with the Dawson Creek Switcher and upon arrival at Tremblay, sets out an empty boxcar for the elevator there:

The real test during this session was to confirm that operators could work simultaneously at Chetwynd and Dawson Creek given my unavoidable violation of a layout design rule not to double stack two yards; it actually worked out well especially with the Dawson Creek operator having a wireless throttle.  Here Michael continues to work in Chetwynd while Philippe goes to work in Dawson Creek:

Another scenario tried for the first time was to issue work limits and subsequent clearances with restrictions to protect those work limits.  Here Gary is back at work with Work Extra 810, this time ballasting between Groundbirch and Progress:

For his trip back to Chetwynd, Philippe is issued a clearance with a restriction to protect against Work Extra 810.  Upon arrival at Progress, he has to call Gary for clearance through the work limits.  After receiving Gary's clearance, Extra 613 West motors through Tremblay with Work Extra 810 in the siding:

All in all, another successful session with a lot of positive feedback and some more lessons learned.  There is enough now to create an interesting job for a fourth person as dispatcher.

I also acquired a nice pair of cylindrical hoppers which were seen on the BCR in the late 1970s:  a CN car and an NAHX (North American) car.  I installed body mount couplers, MT trucks and FVM wheels, and they are now ready for some weathering to indicate lime service:

Also a CP grain boxcar newly repainted in Action Red, re-equipped with body mount couplers and FVM wheels:

And two new diesel fuel tank cars, created by adding an Arnold tank body to a Micro-Trains underframe, installing etched grab irons, wire handrails and Gold Medal ladders/platforms, trucks with FVM wheels, and body mount couplers:

Thanks for looking,

Tim

Tim that looks like it was a lot of fun. I feel like you need an action red Esqualt & Nanaimo lumber box car as well though.

Last week I finished the drywall and had electricians install new LED lighting in the layout room. After discussion they installed low profile strip fixtures around the perimeter of the room about 30 inches away from the walls and I'm really pleased with the effect. They're on a dimmer and provide great even light throughout the room.

This weekend will be fully devoted to bench work; I loaded in supplies of plywood and misc. lumber yesterday and rechecked the layout plan to ensure I know exactly what I'm doing. The layout is a 2 decker 'nolix' twice around the room (3 decker, 2 1/2 laps if you count the staging yards at either end) and will be entirely cantilevered from the walls of the room (no legs). Frames cut from 3/4" ply will be placed ever 2 feet around the perimeter walls of the room will be the primary structure. These are screwed to more plywood that has been securely screwed to the perimeter walls at layout height so the 2 foot spacing on the frame members doesn't need to correspond to stud locations for structural strength.

Part of the layout design process involved cutting out full size mock ups of the frame members from foamcore board to make sure deck spacing and layout visibilty was properly considered; these mock-ups will work as patterns for the plywood frames.

All of this is similar to my last layout, so I'm comfortable with the concept and I'm really looking forward to making some real progress. All of this leads to my question: does anybody in TRW community have access to a diagram of the layout of track in Golden, BC circa 1958?

Geoff do you have a build thread? I’m really excited to follow your benchwork progress.

Geoff:  You might try the Canadian Pacific Historical Association, http://cptracks.ca/cpdocs/documents.asp (you will need to register on the site in order to be able to search their holdings), or the Revelstoke Railway Museum, https://www.railwaymuseum.com/.  Failing that, try the BC Government Air Photo Service, https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/data/geographic-data-services/digital-imagery/air-photos to see if there are air photos available from that area and era.  I believe UBC has a pretty good collection of air photos.  The RCAF also did a number of air photo flights throughout BC in the 1950s.  Info should be available from Natural Resources Canada, https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/earth-sciences/geomatics/satellite-imagery-air-photos/9265

Tim,
If you know of any British manufacturers the offer scale people,  I'll definitely check into it.  I wonder if some manufacturers of architectural models offer stair-climbing people ... probably, but not in N most likely.

I will look into the former for you.  I will be over there for Christmas and the LHS there carries a number of little cottage industry brands which I have never seen.  Last visit I came back with some nice resin hay rolls I had never seen before.

Stunning. Looks way too much like a couple of buildings in our downtown, 'cept we don't have graffiti here... yet.

Four days until we head to Kansas City.   The goal is simple; some green and some trees.  The mess just means I'm having fun!  :D

No pressure, eh?

I'm really sorry we can't make it to the show to see it. We had planned to be there and have badges at will-call already due to our club's participation in the N-Trak layout, but a last-minute reschedule of a commitment at home jumped in the way.

No pressure.  They're 100% operational, so whatever amount of scenery gets done, gets done.

As long as you keep SLC2019 on the calendar.  I believe the latest tally is ~125 module sets planning to make it!
