we are working on it.  All hands are pushing the DODX flat and once that is finished in a few weeks then we will continue cutting steel on the Coach. Right now I don't have a release date but maybe Eric will have it at the NSE in June.

Joe

That is good to know. I need several painted for Erie in both the green and the two tone green paint schemes. I am also looking forward to those dodx flats. Thanks for the update.

I'm interested. Does anyone know if MTL got around to doing this (announced Jan 2017):

These three modified N scale 50-foot cars join our growing fleet and feature new sides and ends depicting changes mandated by the AAR. These cars will have correct ride height, photo-etched brake platforms, body mounted Magne-Matic couplers and exacting surface details.

Too bad the double door car matches no known prototypes...

How do you mean?  There were certainly double door 50' PS-1s.

I was almost excited for the SP wellcars, but then realized they are an articulated pair and that looks like it would be a fun thing to try do put on one truck. completely incorrect because SP never rostered any Husky Stacks or other stand alone well cars.

Chris

Fixed that for you.

How many of those double door 50' PS-1's were built with "post '66" ends with low handbrakes and ladders on both sides of the ends, but with "pre 1960" sides that have grabs on the left side, ladders on the right (which could have been lowered) and no gussets on the lower corners of the door opening?

I can't think of any 50' PS-1's with double sliding doors that were built with handbrakes in the low position, and Southern was one of the few roads that went through the trouble of lowering their handbrakes when the roofwalks were removed.

Southern did have some double sliding door cars built in the early 1960's with roofwalks that were later removed and high mounted handbrakes that were lowered that would have been close (aside from the dimensional issues) had MTL added ladders and gussets like they did with the single door cars:

Thanks @James Costello. I knew they had one (513300) but didn't even think about them not having any other solo cars other than it for some reason. I miss the days I lived right next to the SP tracks and all I ever cared about was the power for the most part. Its one thing if I could go back in time and tell myself stuff it would be on that list. And not to drift the topic, I guess its easier now a days with all the digital to capture the whole train than it was 20 years ago.

Because decals never look as good as painted lettering.

I'm liking the N&W boxcar even though it's not exact it's about as good as we will see in N.

There is a photo from 1974 of the actual car MTL did (286901) in the N&W Color Guide To Freight And Passenger Equipment (Jim Nichols) on page 43. MTL did a good job on the lettering. The real 286901 has high mounted brake wheel but low ladders on the sides. The real car was made by GATC. The doors at least, appear to be a perfect match.

I guess I'll get one and body mount the couplers while lowering it.  8)

Only one release this month appeals to me — the GN wood reefer looks great, but it's between eras for me so I can't use it unfortunately.  Here's hoping that's a prelude to some FGE releases on the 47000/49000 bodies, of which I could use many.

Thanks, I'll be picking one up for sure, hopefully MTL is still going to do those new trucks that will lower the ride height! Maybe we will hear something soon at the convention here in June.

I like the Milw USRA outside braced car.

I like wooden cars this one would be cool:
